EARL Betty Earl service held Funeral service for the late Betty Caroline Earl was held Monday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home. Ms. Earl died peacefully with her family at her side on Feb. 5 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She was 58. Born at Kelowna on March 11, 1944, Ms. Earl has lived in the Kelowna/Armstrong area all her life. She enjoyed being with the family, knitting, crocheting and outings with family and friends. She had a calm spirit and never complained. Betty is survived by her father, Harry Earl, at Vernon, sister Barbie (Dennis) Melvin at Vernon; three nephews and their children, Shawn (Elma), Jordan and Jessica Melvin, Kent (Linnete), Katina, Juanna and Victoria Melvin; Bryce (Gail) Melvin; and extended family. She was predeceased by mother Barbara in 1980 and neice Karla Melvin in 1991. Shaun Buckley and Phyllis Olson officiated at the service. ECKHOFF Millie ECKHOFF service held A service of remembrance was held Monday afternoon at Armstrong for the late Mildred Hattie Eckhoff (nee Kines) of Vernon and formerly of Armstrong. Mrs. Eckhoff died Oct. 18 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital of complications stemming from diabetes. She was 82. Born April 20, 1918, Mil was the third of four children and raised on a farm near Roblin, Man. Hers was a musical family and Mil began singing at an early age. In the 1940's, the family relocated to Chilliwack where Mil worked at the music store and Eaton's. In 1957, she married Lloyd Eckhoff and they settled in Armstrong. Together they ran the L & M Café and Armstrong Cleaners and were a popular couple in the area. Over the years, Mil's rich contralto voice shared duets and trios with her younger brother Pat, and sister-in-law Audrey Kines, among others. Mil was an active member and Post Noble Grand of Sunset Rebekah Lodge at Armstrong and a faithful member of the United Church. Mrs. Eckhoff is survived by daughter Joanne (Jim) Stephens at Kamloops, son Bruce (Cheryl) Eckhoff at Winfield, sister-in-law Mickey Burgess, Helen Van Winkle and Audrey Kines, all at Vernon. Also surviving are grandchildren Kevin (Claire) Stephens, Madison Stephens, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd in 1980, parents Wm. Clarence and Hazel Kines, sister Marjorie Day, brothers Clare and Albert "Pat" Kines. The remembrance service was conducted by Brain Jackson. A tea was held at the church hall following the service. Cremation in the family plot of Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery.* Donations in memory of Mil Eckhoff may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. EDMUNDS Edmunds service on Saturday Funeral service for the late Florence Victoria Edmunds will be held from the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday at 1 p.m. Mrs. Edmunds died at Enderby on July 13 following a lengthy illness. Born at Ontario on June 12, 1905, she lived in the Minnitomas area of Manitoba for many years. She married Colonel Henry Edmunds there and looked after the farm while he served overseas. The couple came to B.C. and farmed in the Grindrod and Armstrong areas before retiring to Enderby. Mr. Edmunds predeceased his wife in February of this year. She is survived by a son Keith at Stoney Plain, Alta., two daughters Mary Kirby at Canoe and Hilda Grindle at Rocky Mountain House. There are eight grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and sister, Bert McEwen and Geneva (Pearl) Porter. She also was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters, Grant Russell, Annie, Sadie and Myrtle. Re. Betty McLagan will officiate at the Saturday service. Interment will follow in the family plot of Armstrong-Spallumcheen Cemetery. Armstrong Advertiser 16 Jul 1986
EFTODIE E.M. Eftodie death noted Memorial services will be held at a later date for the late Elva Marie Eftodie of Armstrong who died Aug. 14 at Region while on vacation. Born on Sept. 28, 1927, she received her school at Steele School. She married Alex Eftodie on June 29, 1949 at Birch River, Man. After spending the first few years farming, they moved to Vancouver Island where Mr. Eftodie was employed by B.C. Forestry Tree Farms at Duncan and later at Prince George. They retired to Armstrong. Mrs. Eftodie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Alex, son Paul (Kathy) and Davyn all at Prince George, daughter Shelley (Gary) and Ian at Armstrong, brothers Perry at Birch River, Man., Arkell (Jean) at Osoyoos, Grant (Bernice), Van (Mary), Dallas (Maureen) all at Regina, Dalton (Nellie) at Kamsack, Sask., sisters Rene (Felix) at Cranbrook, Iris (Sam) at Birch River, Man. Mrs. Eftodie was predeceased by her parents, sister Teslin (Tess), brother Atlin (Art). The memorial services will be held both at Armstrong and Birch River, Man. EPP Jack Epp's service held Funeral service for the late Cornelius Jack Epp was held July 26 following his death at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on July 22 after a brief illness. He was 62. Mr. Epp was a resident of Vernon and Armstrong for 25 years. Born at Grand Prairie, Alta., on Aug. 15, 1936, he worked in sales during his working life. He also enjoyed visiting family, fishing and he had a good sense of humor. Mr. Epp is survived by two sons, Gerald Epp (Leslie) at Vernon, and their children Jennifer and Michelle; Keith Epp (Karen) of Pritchard, and their children Kelsey, Karissa and Korey. He also is survived by his mother, Agnes Epp, at Tofield, Alta., and his sister Erna Wiens (Henry) at Edmonton as well as many nieces and nephews. Rev. Jim Lochhead officiated at the 11 a.m. service at Zion United Church with interment following in Armstrong/Spallumcheen Cemetery. Mountain View Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. ERICKSON Jean Erickson service Friday A celebration of life will be held Dec. 1 for the late Jean Erickson, 84, who died Nov. 26 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. The service will be conducted at Trinity United Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bob Thompson officiating. She lived at Earlscourt Farm near Lytton for a number of years, then raised purebred Herefords with her husband, Carl, at a farm near Armstrong from 1959 to 1971 when they retired to Coldstream. Mrs. Erickson was involved with 4-H was a leader for many years. She also was a longtime member of Coldstream Women's Institute. She is survived by her son, Bill, daughter, Debbie (Thorvald) Skaalid, five grandchildren and a number of extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl, in 1988. EWANCHUK Service held for Ewanchuk Dorothy Eunice Ewanchuk died at age 79 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital Nov. 12. Mrs. Ewanchuk, an Armstrong resident since 1972, played an active role in church, Rebekah Lodge, and the Rose Mountain Band, played and sang at Willowdale and enjoyed flowers, reading, crafts and driving in the country. She also had been a member of the Royal Purple while living in Alberta before arriving in this community. Mrs. Ewanchuk, born at Drumheller July 10, 1923, is predeceased by husband Rudolph Kendall in 1974, son Garry Kendall and second husband Steve Guzy. She is survived by special friend Ed Vogel; and family, daughter and sons, Kathy Clark (Garney), Calgary; Randy Kendall (Cheryl) Enderby; Barry Kendall (Jo-Anne), Falkland; Walter Guzy (Dianne), Vernon; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. She was loved by all. A funeral service was held at the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel Nov. 16, following internment at Enderby Cemetery. Rev. Cory Rundell officiated.
