GADBOIS

Carolyn Gadbois service July 5

Funeral services for a former nurse and associate in her husband's business, Carolyn Joyce Gadbois, were held Monday at the Alliance Church at Vernon.

Mrs. Gadbois died suddenly after a brief illness on July 1 at the age of 56.

Born in the Chaplin area of Saskatchewan on April 1, 1943, she graduated from Moose Jaw Union Hospital in 1964 and obtained her nursing degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1965. She held numerous general duty nursing and supervisory positions at Moose Jaw and Vancouver, later settling at Vernon. She became the Director of Nursing at Vernon Jubilee Hospital in 1972. She also held board positions with the Registered Nurses Association of B.C., and other nursing committees until her early retirement in 1988. She then joined her husband, Ray, at Armstrong Jewelers (next to the Advertiser) which they continued to operate until they closed the store in 1990.

Mrs. Gadbois enjoyed years of travelling, visiting family and friends. She was always willing to give of herself and helped anywhere she was needed. She recently volunteered with the Canadian Blood Services.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Raymond; nieces Terryl (Drew) Waldo, Crystal (Kevin) Martell, Brent (Gizelle) Anderson; their children Myles and Jocelyn Waldo, Shea and Ryan Martell and Joel and Stefan Anderson, all in Saskatchewan; her stepsons Guy (Dana) Gadbois, Larry Gadbois (Cheryl); children Carlee, Michelle, Justin, Aimee (Terry) and Nathan, Kyle, Brodie (Betsy); brothers-in-law Romeo Gadbois and Gordon Anderson, and sister-in-law Terry Fraser. Mrs. Gadbois was predeceased by her parents George and Bertha Isley and sister Marie Anderson.

Pastors Ian Trigg and Rick Labuck officiated at the service. Honorary bearers were Bob Taylor, Bob Weatherill, Bob Ferguson, Dr. Victor Dyck, Shirley Savie and Tom Parkinson. Mountain View Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

GALBRAITH

Galbraith service held on Jan. 5

A funeral service for the late Jessie Eleanor Galbraith was held Jan. 5 at Mountain View Chapel following her peaceful death at Pleasant Valley Manor on Jan. 1. She was 80 years old at the time of her death.

Eleanor and Harold were married in 1942 and moved to Armstrong from Saskatchewan in 1956 where she has resided since.

Mrs. Galbraith enjoyed working at B.C. Pea Growers and as a cook at the Vernon Army Camp. She was active in the Rebekah Lodge and loved spending time with her family.

The 1:30 p.m. service was conducted by Rev. Lorraine Powell. Cremation followed the service. Interment of Eleanor and husband Harold in the family plot of Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Galbraith is survived by four children, Gary (Sharlene) Galbraith at Langley, Sharon (Ed) Birnie at Aldergrove, Dwain (Brenda) Galbraith at Armstrong, and Wendy Luttmerding at Armstrong. Also surviving are grandchildren John, Duane and Stephen Birnie, Shelly O'Neill, Kevin and Ryan Kutzner, Craig and Cory Galbraith, Erin, Adam, Maryanne and Kristen Luttmerding, Graham and Sarah Galbraith, five great grandchildren Chelsea and Shayne O'Neill, Jessica, Marissa and Joel Birnie; two sisters Jean Hill at Ferndale, Wash., and Donna Paisley at Nanoose Bay; sisters-in-law Joan Duggan at Armstrong and Hilda Duggan at Anahim Lake; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Galbraith was predeceased by her husband, Harold Samuel, on Oct. 22, 1999, daughter Lynne Kutzner, grandson Bern Luttmerding, parents Ethel and Walter Duggan, brothers Ray and Vernon Duggan.

Mountain View Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

GEMMILL

Madeline Joan Gemmill (Maddie) of the Lazy Dog Ranch, Enderby, B.C. Born Aug. 22, 1941 Medicine Hat, Alta. Died Nov. 11, 2000, Enderby, B.C. Survived by her Aunt Bernice and her cousins Kathy, Candy and Barb, and a "jillion" friends. She was a well loved and respected teacher at Pleasant Valley Secondary School in Armstrong and at David Thompson Secondary School in Vancouver. She represented Canada on the Canadian Women's Field Hockey Team in the 1960's & 1970's. Maddie loved her "four foots" (dogs & cats) with a passion. She frequently engaged in intellectual gymnastics. Her unique sense of humor saved her "posterior" numerous times! She did life her way! No flowers by request. Donations in Maddie's memory may be made to your local SPCA.

GESSNER

Bud Gessner service held

A celebration of life was held Oct. 15 for the late Benjamin Arthur "Bud" Gessner who died at Osoyoos on OCt. 12 at the age of 76 years.

The last of his family, Mr. Gessner was raised at North Vancouver and moved to California in 1948. He and Leonora were married at Armstrong in 1950 but lived in California until 1953. That year, they moved to Armstrong.

Mr. Gessner was a truck driver for the Township of Spallumcheen until retiring in 1991. In 1997 they moved to Osoyoos.

A member of the Royal Canadian Legioon, Mr. Gessner enjoyed fishing, woodworking and curling.

Mr. Gessner is survived by his wife, Leonora, at Osoyoos, daughter Karen (Ray) Roberts at Groves, Texas and Teri Gessner at Armstrong; five grandchildren Lynsdse, Caitlyn, Kara Lea, Felecia and Michael.

The service was held at Mountain View Chapel with Jim Sharman fooiciating. Following the service, a tea was held at Teri Gessner's home. Cremation.

Memorial donations may be made to the HEart and Stroke Foundation.

GIESBRECHT

Abe Giesbrecht service Jan. 16

Services will be held this week for the late Giesbrecht*, who died at Vernon Hospice House on Jan. 12 at the age of 75 years.

A visitation will be held at Mountain View Funeral Cahpel this Wednesday between 7 and 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at Armstrong Bible Chapel on Thursday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Greg Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot of Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery.

Born to Canadian parents living in Mexico at the time, they later lived in Saskatchewan.

Abe and his wife and family moved from Warman, Sask. to their Stepney farm in 1970.

He also worked in the electrical repair business for Bill Lutz at Enderby Electric.

A big milking parlor was built on the farm and the Giesbrechts began shipping milk to NOCA, not just cream.

When the farm was old* in the late seventies and the Giesbrechts moved into Armstrong, Abe operated Abe's Appliance Repairs. He also took pride in helping many people, particularly elderly ladies, is* their gardens, using his little tractor.

Mr. Giesbrecht was known by many in the Armstrong area, where he lived, for his cheerful, caring and gentle nature. His "Mr. Fix-it" reputation and his dedication to the church was well known throughout the community.

He was predeceased by his wife Tena of 43 years in January 1992, six brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Giesbrecht is survived by his second wife Mary and two daughters, Lois (Jim) Klassen, children Ryan, Brittany and Brody of Armstrong, Gaydene (John) Safonoff, children Savannah and Sierra at Burns Lake. Also surviving him are brothers and sisters Dick (Clara), Ann (Otto), Nettie, John (Ruth), Helen (Reg), Marie (Jake), Dave (Norma) and many extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Abe's memory may be made to Vernon & District Hospice House or you may leave in the foyer of Armstrong Bible Chapel.

GIGER

Max Giger Jr. funeral Jan. 29

Funeral service for the late Max Giger Jr. will be held this Wednesday (Jan.29) at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home.

Mr. Giger died at his Spallumcheen residence on Jan 25 with his family by his side. He was 51.

Born in Switzerland where he completed his education, he lived for a time at Summerland. The family came to the Armstrong area in 1978 where they have since resided.

Mr. Giger enjoyed welding, fixing things and fishing in his spare time. He worked with Vernon Paving.

Mr. Giger is survived by his wife, Anita; daughters Leah and Isabel, both at home, parents Max Sr. and Anne Giger at Armstrong, brothers Roy Giger (Wendy) at Armstrong, Guido (Hilda) at Westbank, nieces and nephews, Brandon, Daniel, Lierin, Cindy, Doug, Dwain and extended family members.

The 2 p.m. service will be conducted by Rev. Lorraine Powell. Cremation. Following the service, a reception will be held in the tea room at Mountain View Funeral Home.

Friends wishing to remember Max Jr. may make memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society.

GILBERT

Hugh Gilbert service Feb. 7

A memorial service will be held for Hugh Robert Gilbert, who died at age 77 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital Feb. 1.

Predeceased by wife, Victoria, Hugh will be lovingly remembered by two daughters Tracy (Lorne) Seidel of Winfielld and Tina Gilbert of Calgary; two sons Keith (Connie) of Cambridge, Ont., and Bryan (Joan) of Armstrong; eight grandchildren and friends.

Born at East Angus, Quebec on July 26, 1924, Gilbert was the last of his family. He lived most of his life in Fort Nelson, moving to Winfield in 1984 and later to Vernon and Armstrong. He was active in the community with the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Chapel, with a tea to follow.

Donations in memory of Hugh may be made to Canadian Cancer, Juvenile Diabetes or a charity of your choice.

GOERTZEN

Anne Goertzen death reported

A longtime Armstrong resident, Anne Goertzen, died peacefully at Willowdale Guest Home on Nov. 19 at the age of 83 years.

Born at Chaplain, Sask. on Aug. 6, 1918, Anne lived in Alberta before moving to Armstrong in 1947 where she had since resided.

Mrs. Goertzen was active in the community in the Seniors Club, 4-H Cooking Club and as a ling time exhibitor at the Interior Provincial Exhibition. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking and taking occasional trips to Reno.

Mrs. Goertzen was predeceased by daughter Sherri Coltor in February 2000. She is survived by two daughters, Hilary Gordon at Salmon Arm and Lynda Natsuhara at Kelowna, son Brian at Kelowna, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She also is survived by sister Helen Ferguson, at Saskatoon, Sask. and extended family.

By request, no service was held at this time. Cremation and arrangements were entrusted to Mountain View Funeral Home.

GORDON

Annie Gordon death reported

A longtime Armstrong area resident, Annie Gordon, died peacefully at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on July 23. She was 89.

She moved to Armstrong in 1953 with her husband, Daniel Glenn Gordon, and their sons. Mrs. Gordon was active in the community as a member of the Armstrong Seniors Activity Centre and the Rebekah Lodge. She also enjoyed curling, bingo, lawn bowling and trips to Reno.

Predeceased by her husband in 1984 and son Reginald in 1996, she is survived by sons Orville at Revelstoke and Ralph at Lethbridge, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

At her request, no service will be held at this time. Cremation. Donations in memory of Annie Gordon may be made to the Armstrong Seniors Activity Centre or a charity of your choice.

GRAHAM

Winnie Graham service Aug. 23

Funeral service for the late Winnifred Julie "Winnie" Graham will be held Thursday at Grandview Flats Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 2:30 p.m.

Mrs. Graham was born at Winnipeg, Man. On Nov. 20, 1910 and died peacefully at Vernon on Aug. 18 at the age of 90 years.

A long time resident of Grandview Flats, she married William John Graham in 1934 at Vancouver. They moved to Grandview Flats in 1946 where she resided since.

Mrs. Graham loved her family, gardening, crafts and crossword puzzles. She taught music and voice.

Predeceased b her husband in 1984, her son Billy and four sisters, she is survived by three daughters, Judy Befus (Laurie) at Vernon, Bev O’Neil (Jerry) at Armstrong, Shirley Loxdale (Wayne) at Halifax, daughter-in-law Donna Raham at Phoenix, Ariz., grandchildren Ray Loxdale, Glenn Loxdale, Troy, Burman and Sean Graham, Kevin and Darin O’Neil, Natasha and Todd Befus, great grandchildren Julia Zachery and Joy, Jacob, Tyrel, Garet, Logan and Carson. There are extended family and many fiends.

The service will be conducted by Pastor Dennis Nickel. Interment will be in the family plot of Grandview Seventh-day Cemetery Mountain View Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

GRANT

Ethel Grant service Jan. 11

A service of remembrance was held Jan. 11 at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home for the late Ethel May Grant who died Jan. 8 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She was 99.

The service was conducted by Pastor Arie de Vos. Cremation. Mountain View Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

Born OCt. 25, 1903 at London, England, she emigrated to Canada in 1907 with her parents and they settled in the Battleford area.

Ethel attended normal school at Saskatoon and taught in the Battleford area.

In her younger years, Ethel was an accomplished singer and sang to the Canadian troops at Battleford during the First World War. In later years she sang at weddings and in church choirs.

In 1923, she and Allan Grant married and five years later the Grant family moved to Sidney, Vancouver Island and then to Dawson Creek in 1937.

Mr. Grant sied in 1954 and four years later Ethel moved to Chetwynd where she worked for several years at the post office. Her last move was to Armstrong in 1970, along with her partner Wilkie Smith.

Mrs. Grant was an active person, enjoyed playing crib and knitting. She is survived by four children, Ellen (Jack) Stewart at Richmond, Bob Grant at Victoria, Margaret (John) Close at Armstrong, June (Bob) Matchett at Calgary; three daughters-in-law, Merle Grant and Corky Grant, both at Chetwynd and Korky Grant at Vernon. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Grant was predeceased by her husband, Allan, partner Wilkie Smith, four sons, Gerald, Farmer (George), Stewart, Jim, two granddaughters and one great granddaughter.

Mrs. Ellen I. Gray Passes Monday; Funeral Feb 9th

Mrs. Ellen Isabel Gray, wife of W. H. Gray, Powerhouse Road, passed away in Shuswap General Hospital, Salmon Arm, on Monday, February 5th. She was in her 70th year.

Funeral will be held from Okanagan Funeral Service Ltd. Redwood Chapel, Armstrong, on Friday, Feb. 9th at 2 p.m. with the Rev. A. M. Manson officiating. No flowers are requested. Interment will be in the Armstrong Cemetery.

GRAY

Mrs. Ellen I Gray Dies in Salmon Arm After Long Illness

Mrs. Ellen Isabel Gray, a resident of the Powerhouse Road district since 1956, passed away in Shuswap General Hospital on Monday, February 8, following a long period of ill health. For the past year Mrs. Gray had been a patient in a nursing home at Salmon Arm. She was in her 70th year.

A native of Ottawa, Ontario, she was employed as a bank clerk in her early life. The former Ellen Isabel Whillans married William Henry Gray on June 22, 1951.

Mrs. Gray was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, also the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion.

Besdies her husband, she is survived by a son, Robert E. Leunning of Palmdale, California; grandson Brian and a granddaughter Carol; also a sister, Mrs. A.V. Cowan of Salmon Arm.

Funeral service for the late Ellen Isabel Gray was held Friday afternoon at two o'clock from the Redwood Chapel of Okanagan Funeral Service Ltd., Armstrong, conducted by Rev. A.M. Manson of Zion United Church.

Large representations from both Sunset Rebekah Lodge and the L.A. to the Royal Canadain Legion attended.

Pallbearers were members of the Oddfellows' and the Rebekah Lodges, Messrs. John Fowler, Thos. Fowler, Frank C. Harrison, P. Raymond Bawtinheimer, Oscar W. Nordstrom and Andrew Johnson.

Interment followed in the Armstrong Cemetery.

Gulycz

John Gulycz funeral held

A funeral service for the late Ivan "John" Gulycz was held July 28 at Armstrong following his death at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on July 25 at the age of 78.

Born in Poland in July 25, 1923, Mr. Gulycz moved to Canada in 1953 and settled at Armstrong in 1959. He worked for the CPR and farmed. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, picking berries and being with his family.

Mr. Gulycz is survived by his wife, Mary, at Armstrong, two sons Kelly (June) Reimer at Lacombe, Alta., and Wayne (Anita) Reimer at Ardrossan, Alta., eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The service, held at Mountain View Chapel at 10:30 a.m., was officiated by Rev. Ken Jones. Interment followed at Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery.

A reception was held in the Mountain View tea room following the interment.
