HOBBS

Memorial planned for Matthew Hobbs

A special "Memorial for Matthew Hobbs" is being planned Oct. 26 at Armstrong.

The teen disappeared seven years ago, on Oct. 25, without a trace.

The memorial being arranged by Matthew's mother Brenda and sister Debra, will be held at the Caravan Farm at 3 p.m.

"We need to thank everyone who helped put money towards finding Matt and who helped with the search," said Mrs. Hobbs.

She said Caravan Farm was chosen as the site because Matthew always liked it out in that ares.

"The memorial is open to Matt's friends, their families, teachers, students and the general public, " she said.

A number of Matthew's friends have been invited to speak at the memorial. Afterwards everybody will gather to gather for a bite to eat and drink and share in their memories of Matt*.

He would be 25 years old on Nov. 9 this year. Extensive searches of the area where Matt's car was located was conducted by police and dozens of volunteer searchers.

"If you have anything you want to share about Matt or anything to bring (pictures, drawing, stories) or just to let me know you are coming please contact me at 546 - 6247," she said.

Matt's sister, Debra, wrote about his disappearance in a sociology report when she was training in nursing. In the report she commented: "We have been able to move on for the most part but every year on Oct. 25, when it replays on the radio and in the papers, the feelings all rise up again and will continue to do so until we can have some closure on the loss of my brother."

The family hopes the Oct. 26 memorial will help in this regard.

An alternate site for the memorial has been selected, if weather prevents an outdoor gathering, and this will be announced prior to Oct. 26.
