KARRAN Karran service held April 23 A service of remembrance was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday for the late John David Karran of Armstrong who died at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on April 17 at the age of 64 years. The service was held at St. James Anglican Church with Rev. David Robinson officiating. Cremation. Mr. Karran attended school at Oliver, then lived at various areas of Brisish Columbia while a 14-year employee of B.C. Forest Service. He then moved to Williams Lake where he worked for Jacobsen Brothers for 23 years. In August, 1992, the Karrans moved to Armstrong where he worked for Milestone Wood Products until retiring in July 2000. Throughout his life, Mr. Karran enjoyed hockey and was involved with minor hockey for 22 years. He also liked to draw, was a hot rod enthusiast, enjoyed skiing, the outdoors, and wild life. Mr. Karran is survived by his wife, Maureen, at Armstrong; three children Cheryl Cassan at Vernon, Greg (Cindy) Karran at Williams Lake, Scott (Sheri) Karran at St. Albert, Alta.; grandchildren Amber (Bruce) Barkamn at Riverton, Man., Lee (Monica) Cassan at Winnipeg, Shelby Karran at Houston, Marisa McMartin at Vernon, Stevie Karran at Houston, Jack Karran at Williams Lake, Jacob Karran at St. Albert and Ben Karran at Williams Lake; one great grandchild, Evan Cassan at Winnipeg. He is also survived by sisters and brother Bev (Bill) McDonald at Campbell River, Bob (Dorothy) Karran at Bon Accord, Alta., and Sandra (Denny) Amos at Black Creek, B.C. and his special pal, his dog Kyla. KATZUK Mike Katzuk service Friday A Memorial service will be held Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. for a long time Armstrong resident, Michael Katzuk who died peacefully at Enderby & District Memorial Hospital on Jan. 26 at the age of 78 years. A resident of this area since 1925, Mr. Katzuk was born at Estevan, Sask. on Nov. 16, 1923. Coming to British Columbia, he farmed in Spallumcheen and worked for Baird Bros. He enjoyed every day of his life. Mr. Katzuk is survived by his wife Mary at home, two sons and one daughter, Wayne Michael (Lois Rogers) at Sooke, Sherri McCormick (Larry) at Sherwood Park, Alta., Edwin Matthew (Candice) at Lousanna, Alta., grandchildren Stacey, Kayla, Nikita, Graham and Lauren. Also survived are two brothers, Peter (Betty)at Edmonton and Fred (Irene) at Armstrong, as well as nieces and nephews. The service will be conducted at Mountain View Funeral Chapel with Rev. KAZAKOFF Kazakoff death saddens friends The community was saddened to learn of the death of Gladys Avis Cave (Kazakoff) on Oct. 1 at the age of 72. She was born Oct. 25, 1928. Last Friday (Oct. 6) a gathering was held in memory of her at the Oddfellows Hall at Armstrong. Gladys was a long time resident of the Armstrong and Enderby area. She was very active in the Armstrong Enderby Riding Club and regularly assisted at Horse show and fun days. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make donations in Gladys name to the AERC. KAZMAREK E.H. Kazmarek service held A celebration of life was held June 12 for the late Edmund Henry Kazmarek who died June 6 at Enderby & District Memorial Hospital. He was 74. Mr. Kazmarek was born in France of Polish and German parents. He moved to Canada in 1948, originally settling in Ontario. In 1972, he moved his family to British Columbia. It was his love of wide-open spaces and the countryside that finally brought him to the Armstrong/Spallumcheen area. He enjoyed gardening and walking with his dogs. Mr. Kazmarek also loved reading, collecting thousands of books from all over Europe in several languages. He enjoyed meeting people and having coffee with them at the family owned restaurants. Mr. Kazmarek is survived by his wife, Renee, at Armstrong, and children Nathalie (Tom) at Penticton, Corinne (Rick) at Maple Ridge, Gillen Kazmarek at Armstrong, Pierre Kazmarek at Enderby, grandchildren Robert, Jason, Riley, Nicole, Danielle, Stuart and Suria, and two great grandchildren, Alyshia and Tristan. Also surviving his are his mother, Veronica and three sisters, Luciene, Jeanine and Irene and their respective families. Ken Smedley will officiate at the 2:30 p.m. service being held at Mountain View Chapel. A tea will then be held in the reception area at the chapel with everyone invited. KIDD Kidd funeral on Thursday Death occurred at Vernon on Monday (October 6) of Prince Kidd, aged 95 years. Mr. Kidd was born the sixth of 12 children in Wigginstall, England on May 24, 1885. In 1912 Mr. Kidd came to Canada and served with the Canadian Army, Battalion #138for almost four years. Upon his return from the First World War in 1919, Mr. Kidd bought a farm in St. Vincent, Alta. Where he farmed until his move to the Knob Hill area of Armstrong in 1947. In 1963, Mr. Kidd retired and moved from the farm into the Coty of Armstrong. Predeceased by his wife, Alice in 1977, he leaves six daughters, Elizabeth Fleming of Williams Lake, Mary Manke, Kamloops; Ellen McKenzie, Port McNeil; Ay Baird, Salmon Arm; Stella Hill, Enderby; Ruby Dugdale, Armstrong; and two sons, William Bromley of Barriere and Prince Bromley of Armstrong. Funeral service will be held at St. James’ Anglican Church, Armstrong on Thurs., Oct. at 2 p.m. with Rev. Gerald Lavergne officiating. Interment will be in Armstrong-Spallumcheen Cemetery. KIDD Alice Kidd service today Alice Kidd of 2485 Patterson Ave., Armstrong, died July 6, in Enderby and District Memorial Hospital after a long term illness of two years. She was 66. Originally of Maidenstone, Kent, England, she came to Canada in 1914 where she was educated and married in Maple Creek, Sask. It wasn’t until 1947 that she moved to Enderby where she worked at being a wife and homemaker for her family. Her earlier occupation in life was that of housekeeper. Besides taking care of her family she was actively involved in needle work. Mrs. Kidd is survived by her husband, six daughters; Elizabeth Anna Fleming, Grindrod; Mary Emma Manke, Kamloops; Ellen Florence MacKenzie; Amy Jean Baird, Salmon Arm; Stella rose Hill, Enderby; Ruby Diane Dugdale at home and her two sons; Ucluelet, William Bromley; and Prince Bromley, slong with four sisters and two brothers. She is predeceased by one sister and three brothers. Funeral service was held July 9 at St. James’ Anglican church, Armstrong, Rev. Carry officiating. Burial to follow in Armstrong Cemetery. KLASSEN Klassen funeral on Wednesday Funeral service for Stuart Gustav Klassen, 16, will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Mennonite Church at Gardom Lake. Burial will follow at the Hullcar Cemetery. The service will be conducted by minister Robert Klassen. Bowers Funeral Home at Salmon Arm is handling the arrangements. KLASSEN Stuart Klassen funeral held The funeral service for Stuart Gustav Klassen was held at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on Gardom Lake Rd. on April 25 at 1:30 p.m. following his tragic death near Falkland on April 20. He was 16. Stuart is the son of Richard and Donna Klassen, and wsa born on Sept. 28, 1984, at Enderby. The service was conducted by minister Bob Klassen and Benny Hiebert. Casket bearers were Dick Klassen, Todd Olson, Joe Klassen, Marc Goossen, Lance Reimer, Brian Friesen. Honorary bearer was Sean Olson. Interment followed in the Hullcar Cemetery at Armstrong. Bowers Funeral Home at Salmon Arm was entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Donna, sisters Dana at home, Sheryl and Todd Olson, Sean, Katie Rose and Jeffrey at Abbotsford, brothers Joe and Myrna and Mary at Armstrong, Dick at home, maternal grandmother Margaret Toews and many uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends. Just before his death, Stuart had said "I'll do anything God." He asked a youth to pray with him out loud, the he left this world with one last Klassen hand squeeze. Stuart was not ashamed to be a Christian, and was free to talk about his faith with others. He was baptized upon the confession of his faith on April 4, 1999, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Stuart was working with his dad in the family cabinet shop. He loved the outdoors, and the family said they were blessed to share it with him. Together they often made quad trips, hiking, fishing, horseback riding and sharing campfires together. Those who were fortunate enough to share a campfire with him always remember his willingness to split the wood, light the fire and keep it going with many pokes and rearrangements. KLASSEN Jean Klassen service Saturday A service of remembrance will be held this Saturday at 11 a.m. for the late Ellen Jean Klassen. She died at Vernon on March 23 at the age of 70 years. Born and raised at Armstrong, Jean Watt married her husband, Jim, in 1947. They lived in various parts of Canada until moving back to Armstrong in 1969. She was active in the community, the Interior Provincial Exhibition, and Zion United Church. She enjoyed her family and friends. The service will be held at Zion United Church with Rev. Jim Lochhead officiating. Following the service a tea will be held at the church hall. Interment of cremated remains will be made in the family plot of Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery. KLINGER Emil Klinger gathering Aug. 20 A gathering of family and friends will celebrate the life of the late Emil Ludwig Klinger on Aug. 20 at the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans Club at Vernon. Mr. Klinger died peacefully on Aug. 6 at the age of 86 with his wife at his side. The gathering will be held at 3 p.m. Mr. Klinger came to the Vernon area in 1931 from Wappella, Sask. He became involved in land clearing in the area where the Village Green Hotel now stands, pulling large stumps out with a team of horses attached to a lare windlass. Mr. Klinger soon entered the field of farming and ranching, something he continued until his retirement in 1998 at the age of 83. Mr. Klinger was heavily involved in real estate development in the Okanagan Landing area for many yeas. He established and operated one of the first domestic water systems in that area. Following his retirement, he enjoyed a large lawn and garden at the Bar 2 Ranch at Armstrong. He built two fish ponds which he kept stocked with Rainbow trout. He enjoyed feeding and catching the trout with his many friends right up until his last days. A long term member of the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans Club at Vernon, he was an honorary member of the Vernon Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. KOELLING Henry Koelling service held A celebration of life was held Monday for the late Henry William Koelling who died June 11 at Vernon at the age of 83. With his parents, Mr. Koelling immigrated from Germany in 1923, settling in Saskatchewan where they homesteaded and farmed. He lived in various parts of B.C., moving from Surrey to Armstrong in 1972. Over the years, Mr. Koelling worked as a truck driver, logger, mail deliverer, Department of Highways, forestry outlook attendant and Buckerfield’s at Armstrong. He served overseas during the Second World War with the Regina Rifles Regiment, seeing active service from August 1944 to March 1946. Mr. Koelling was an avid fly fisherman and loved the outdoors and animals. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and an active participant with the Royal Canadian Legion. The service was held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 35, Armstrong at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Cremation. KOFOED Kofoed dies at Abbotsford Kate (Kitsy) Kofoed died from a stroke at Abbotsford Feb.18. Kitsy, born in Armstrong to Ewart and Mabel Price in 1921, spent most of her life in this community. She lived here until her marriage to Aage Kofoed in 1942, moved to Vancouver for five years, and returned to Armstrong with her husband and two children where six more children were born. The family moved to Maple Ridge in 1990 and after Aage's death in 1995, Kitsy moved to Abbotsford to be cared for by her family. Kitsy was predeceased by her beloved husband Aage in 1995, her parents, sister Enid and brother Dave. She is survived by eight children; Mabel of Abbotsford, Jack (Leona) of Kelowna, Jean (Rod) McLean of Penticton, Marjorie (Angus) McEachern of Maple Ridge, Bruce (Karen) of North Vancouver, Grace (Gordon) Wood of Surrey, Joyce (Kerry) Nesvog of Abbotsford and Merlin (Joanne) of Langley and four sisters and three brothers; Beatrice Graham of Chase, Ron (Pearl) Price of Salmon Arm, Jack Price of Montana, Emma Lansdowne of Kelowna, Harry (Doris) Price of Kelowna, Hazel (Richard) Cobb of Theodore, Saskatchewan, Edna Price of Kelowna, many nieces and nephews and 23 grandchildren. KOSKI John Koski service held A man who has made Armstrong his home for nearly 30 years, John Frederick Koski, died suddenly Feb. 25 at the age of 58. Mr. Koski was born at Salmon Arm on April 11, 1943 and was raised and attended school at Canoe. He and Dale were married at Golden where they lived until moving to Armstrong in 1974. Mr. Koski worked in the road paving and construction industry, His interests included hockey, lacrosse, Nascar racing and visiting friends. A celebration of life was held March 2 at Mountain View Chapel. Mr. Koski is survived by his wife, Dale At Armstrong, three sons Troy (Carrie) at Delta, Greg (Teresa) and Shane (Leah) all at Okotoks, Alta., 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are his parents, Fred and Daisy Koski at Salmon Arm, sister Myrn (Ron) Treat at Salmon Arm, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Lynda. KOSMIN Joseph Kosmin Funeral Held Last Saturday Services were conducted from Sage & Pothecary Chapel Saturday, October 26 at 2 p.m. for Joseph Kosmin, who passed away Thursday at the age of 74. Mr. Kosmin was born in Yugoslavia, January 29, 1884, coming to Canada 40 years ago and to the Armstrong district 15 years ago. He had always been employed as a farm labourer and worked for S. Noble. He has been semi retired since 1953. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Walter Little. Pallbearers were D. MacDonald, J. Erickson, J. Anderson, J. Noble, W. Scott and F. Young. KRAHN Krahn service held on Oct. 7 A funeral service for the late Dianna Lynn Krahn (nee McMillan) was held Oct. 7 following her sudden death at Creston on Oct. 2 at the age of 42. Dianna was born and raised at the Coast. Moving From Abbotsford, she lived at Armstrong for six years until moving to Creston where she has resided for the past two years. She enjoyed her family, friends, horses and tole painting. She is survived by three daughters, Pamela (Dave) Quapp at Abbotsford, Stephanie and Jackelyn Krahn, both at Armstrong and son Justin Krahn, also at Armstrong. She is also survived by her mother Kay McMillan at Delta, brother Mark McMillan (Jennifer Fenton) at Vancouver, sister Debbie (Rick) Stanger in Florida, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, William McMillan. The service was held at 1 p.m. at Armstrong Bible Chapel with Rev. Don Lindsay officiating. A tea was held following the service. KREBBERS Alida Krebbers service Jan. 24 Services for the late Alida Dora Krebbers will be held this week following her death Jan. 18 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She was 69. A long-time resident of Armstrong, she was born at Leoville, Sask. on Jan. 27, 1932. She married Christian Krebbers at Revelstoke in 1967. Mrs. Krebbers was active in the work of the church, the Catholic Women's League, eucharistic ministry and volunteered with many charitable organizations. She is survived by her son Dale Krebbers (Dale) at Kelowna, daughter Elizabeth Krebbers at Elkford, a sister and four brothers, Rosa Urdal, Peter Pelletier, Omer Pelletier, all at Port Alberni, Andy Pellitier in California, Rosaire "Roy" Pelletier at Salmon Arm, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Christian in 1974. Prayers will be recited at St. Josephs Catholic Church on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. and Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. Rev. Fr. Leo Boyd, O.M.I. celebrant. KREBBERS Krebbers mass of burial Sept. 7 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Gerardus (Jo) Joachim M. Krebbers at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jospeh Catholic Church Sept. 7. Mr. Krebbers, a Spallumcheen farmer since 19080, died suddenly at age 72, Sept. 2. Born at Ottersum, Holland, he came to Canada in 1954 and settled at Revelstoke where he married Sylvia Colarach and worked in the logging industry before settling on a farm in this community in 1980. Mr. Krebbers enjoyed fishing, hunting and working outdoors. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed the company of his friends and family. He also enjoyed music and played the baritone for a band in Holland and Revelstoke. Predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Jan of Holland and Chris of Armstrong, he is survived by Sylvia, his wife of 41 years; his twin brother Jack (Dora) of Armstrong; brothers Pierre, Harry and Sjef and sisters Mia (Mooren), Dora (Janssen) and Carole (Dibbets) all of Holland. He is also survived by nephews James (Nina) Krebbers of Armstrong and Dale (Tara) Krebbers of Kelowna; nieces Erma (Lloyd) Main of Armstrong, Jackie (Ken) Walkden of Winnipeg, Elsie (Bob) Johnson of Calgary, Elizabeth Krebbers of Elkford and several nieces and nephews in Holland. The Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholn memory of Joic Church with internment to follow at Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery Sept. 7. KRUEGER Helen Krueger service held A resident of the Vernon and Armstrong area since 1949, Lois Helen Krueger dies at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Oct 15 at the age of 93. For many years, Mrs. Krueger was the operator of a sewing business at Armstrong. A graveside committee service was held at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at Vernon City Cemetery. Cremation. Mrs. Krueger is survived by a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband, John Otto Krueger, in 1986. KRUSE Gisela Kruse death reported Gisela Ingedore Kruse died peacefully at her home at Armstrong on May 4 at the age of 71 years. Mrs. Kruse lived in South Africa, Ontario, back to South Africa, then to Vernon for five years before moving Armstrong* six years ago. She was a student of human spirituality and pilosophy who enjoyed reading and helping others. Mrs. Kruse is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Walter, at Westbank. She was predeceased by her husband, Clemens, in 1984. Family and friends will gather at the Shuswap River for a remembrance service at a later date. Mountain View Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. *as written in the newspaper Armstrong Advertiser 9 May 2001 Kucera active in community Funeral Mass for the late Thomas Kucera was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Oct. 21 following his peaceful death at Enderby & District Memorial Hospital on Oct. 17. Mr. Kucera, 88, was a resident of Armstrong for 15 years and former longtime resident of Fernie. Born in Czechoslovakia on March 4, 1911, he immigrated to Canada with his father and brothers as a young teenager. He settled with his family outside of Hosmer, a small town in Elk Valley. Mt. Kucera lived briefly at Coleman where he met his wife, Margaret, and eventually settled on a farm at the base of Hosmer Mountain outside of the small town of Fernie. Though arriving as a tenderfoot, Mr. Kucera would eventually operate companies active in logging, road construction, mining, petroleum exploration and farming. His biggest and longest lasting contribution to the community was in partnering with friends and business associates to help build Snow Valley, now one of the premiere ski resorts in the Canadian Rockies. Upon retirement, Tom and Margaret Kucera moved to the Okanagan Valley. He and his family operated Armstrong Lanes, expanding the facility and supporting the creation of many league activities for seniors. In his spare time, Mr. Kucera enjoyed gardening, bowling, curling and travelling. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, three sons and one daughter, Thomas Jr. at Armstrong, Emilia Saunders at Vancouver, Henry (Gail) at Victoria, Patrick (Susan) at Armstrong, 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters and extended family in Czechoslovakia. Father Leo Boyd, O.M.I. was celebrant for the 10 a.m. Mass on Oct. 21. Cremation. A reception was held immediately following Mass at St. Joseph's Parish Hall. KYLER Friends gather for Rick Kyler A small gathering for family and friends was held at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Tuesday at 3 p.m. for the late Richard Frederick (Rick) Kyler who died at his residence at Edmonton on April 2 at the age of 49 years. The son of Lillie Kyler and the late Pat Kyler of Green Valley Estates at Armstrong, Rick was born at Ganges, Salt Spring Island on Nov. 17, 1951. He received his education on the island, where he worked for a few years before moving to Alberta. A private and quiet man, Mr. Kyler was an expert carpenter and finisher who enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family and friends. He is survived by his family, mother Lillie at Armstrong, brother Ken (Chris) at Nanoose Bay, sisters Diane Coutts (Ron) at Vernon, Dawn Brennan (John) at Enderby and Denise Funk 9Trevor) at Meadow Creek, nieces ad nephews, Glen and Darren Coutts, Jennifer and Michael Kyler, Rori and Devin Kyler, Shannon Brennan and Savanna, Jesse and Jeffrey Funk and great nephew Justin Coutts.
