LAIRD

Bill Laird service held

Memorial services for the late George William "Bill" Laird were held Dec.29 after he died peacefully at home in Armstrong on Dec.25.

Born at Innisfail, Alta., on July 8, 1918, he grew up in Victoria and married Kathleen Teece in 1943. The couple moved to Sidney in 1949.

During his lifetime, Mr. Laird was a grocer, farmer and contractor. In 1970, the Lairds' moved to Armstrong where they developed the McLeod Rd. Subdivision.

Mr. Laird will be remembered for his hard work, honesty, humor and his concern for unbridled government interference in his life.

He is survived by Kay, three sons Bill (Linda) at Salmon Arm, David (Elizabeth) at Merritt, Doug (Toni) at Surrey, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a sister, Barbara, at Victoria.

The memorial service was held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Chris Harwood-Jones officiating. Cremation and interment followed in Armstrong-Spallumcheen Cemetery.

Organist during the service was Irene Brown, while soloist was Samantha Laird.

Donations in memory of Bill Laird may be made to the Salvation Army. Mountain View Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

LANE

Benjamin Lane service Friday

A celebration of life for the late Benjamin William Lane will be held June 21, who died as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Alberta last March 16.

The service will be held at Len Wood Elementary School at 3:15 p.m. with Pastor Greg Schmidt officiating. Refreshments will follow.

Born Oct. 20, 1989 at Williams Lake, Ben is survived by his mother Katie, Father Gord and sisters Sarah, 11 and Laura, 10.

Ben enjoyed playing hockey and soccer and had a quiet, gentle spirit. He was grade seven student at Len Wood.

Ben was a passenger in a vehicle with his family driving east to Saskatchewan during spring break when the accident occurred.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House, Children's Hospital and the North Okanagan Therapeutic Riding Association.

LAPORTE

Laporte service held on April 24

Memorial services for the late Daniel Leo Marie Laporte were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday who died at his home on April 21. He was 66.

Born at New Westminster, he and Jeanne were married Nov. 21, 1959 and lived at the Coast for 35 years until moving to Armstrong in 1994. Mrs.* Laporte was a backhoe operator and farmer. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and gardening.

Mr. Laporte is survived by his wife, Jeanne, at Armstrong, son Michel Daniel (Cindy) at Hope, daughter Louise Marie (Ken) McRory at Aldergrove, five granddaughters Danielle, Adrienne, Melissa, Megan, and Nicole and mother Francoise Marie Laporte at Coquitlam.

The service was held at Mountain View Funeral Chapel with Father Leo Boyd, O.M.I., celebrant.

A tea was held following the service.

LAURSEN

LAURSEN: Marion Roberta Harwood Laursen (nee Bayne) died Oct. 6, 2000 at 96 years of age. She is survived by her daughter, Audrey; grandsons Laurie (Sandra) and Alan, and granddaughter Mavis; as well as great grandchildren Lauren and Brianna, Mickayla and Coady and Caleb. She will also be remembered by her second family, Bob, Brett (Michelle), Tanya (Mark), Brock, Wendy (Pat), Asha, Katie and Bowen; great great grandchildren Tyler and Kassidy. Many friends, nieces and nephews, and one cousin will recall her letters and sense of humour.

She was born in Beaver Creek, Albernie, BC in 1904. Marion attended Normal School in Victoria and at the age of 19 travelled to Tate Creek for her first school. Later she married John Laursen and had one child, Audrey. She taught in Armstrong Elementary School from 1945 to 1964. She was an avid gardener, artist, and grandmother. Special thanks to Dr. Yanko; Roy Haugen, who always stopped in to see her; and all the wonderful staff at Ponderosa Lodge. There will be no service, but a gathering will be held later in November to celebrate Marion's life. She has requested that donations be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society, Box 1044, Kamloops, BC V2C 2J7, which she had supported since the 1940's. "The angels…singing unto one another, can find among their burning terms of love, none so devotional as that of "mother"."

Lee service held Saturday

A memorial service was held July 7 for the late Robert "Bobby" Frederick Lee who died at his home on June 2 at the age of 60 years. Born at Penticton on Sept. 30, 1940, he enjoyed woodworking and painting.

Mr. Lee is survived by two children, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Jessie Lee.

The 11 a.m. service was conducted by Rev. Ken Jones at Mountain View Chapel. Cremation.

LEE

Quong Lee dies at coast

Word was received this week of the death of Quong Lee at Port Alice on July 27. He was 78.

Born at Armstrong, he grew up here, graduating from Armstrong High School.

For many years, Mr. Lee worked as an interpreter and a mediator using his uncommon talents and gifts. His unique abilities of finding solutions which benefitted everyone were given freely, with respect, loving kindness and compassion.

During his career, Mr. Lee set up and operated many food service facilities in B.C., Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

After operating Food Services for Nanaimo Regional Hospital for 24 years, he retired in 1985 moving to Port Alice.

He is survived by many friends and relatives: brothers and sisters, Jim (Linda), Alice (Gunner), Ben (Joyce), Anne, Howe (Hilda), Betty (Ed), Jack (Barbara), May, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Bill and Don.

He also is survived by son Jim (Maria), daughter Margaret (Michael), grandchildren Roger, Keith, Kirsten, Jamie and Robert.

By request there was no service, but a simple cremation with no flowers.

Leng service at graveside

A graveside service was held July 28 for the late Alice Emma Leng who died peacefully at Willowdale Guest Home on July 27. She was 97 years.

The service was held at Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery at 1 p.m. with Rev. David Robinson officiating.

Mrs. Leng moved to Armstrong from Edmonton in 1962. She had resided here ever since, enjoying painting, art and her friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Verne) Flach at Enderby, Marjorie (John) Steenwinkel at Edmonton, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Leng was predeceased by her husband, Stanley William Leng.

A memorial service for the late Patricia Lewis will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. at Zion United Church.

Mrs. Lewis died peacefully at Willowdale Guest Home on Oct. 21 at the age of 84 years.

Born in England, Pat immigrated to Canada at the age of two years. She moved to Armstrong/Enderby area in 1987 and had lived at Willowdale for the past nine years. Family and church were her loves.

Predeceased by her husband, United Church minister Rev. A memorial service for the late Patricia Lewis will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. at Zion United Church.

L'HENAFF

Tony L'Henaff funeral held

A funeral service was held Monday for the late Antoine Florent "Tony" L'Henaff who died peacefully at Willowdale Guest Home on Aug. 22 at the age of 90.

Born at Kamaria, Sask. on Aug. 19, 1912, Mr. L'Henaff lived in the Salmon Arm area for many years and most recently Duncan. He was well known for his many achievements in the pony raising and driving. He was well known at Valley Auction as he attended the weekly Thursday sales. He was employed at the mill until retirement. Mr. L'Henaff was an active member of the Lions Club and the North Okanagan Pony Club. He always enjoyed giving rides to children.

Mr. L'Henaff is survived by his long time friend Greta, and his sons and daughters Mary-Ann Ziola (Ed) at Logan Lake, Paulette Webb (Wayne) at Armstrong, John (Debbie) at Aldergrove, Frank at Salmon Arm, Robert at Salmon Arm, 13 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, brothers Celestine L'Henaff (Verna) at St. Brieux, Sask. and Peter (Dorothy) at Melfort, Sask. as well as extended family members.

The service was held at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ian Boyd officiating. Cremation.

Friends wishing to remember Tony may make memorial contributions to the B.C. Lions Club, the SPCA or a favorite charity.

LITTLE

Service held for Eric Little

A service of remembrance was held at 2 p.m. Nov. 16 for the late Eric Little, who died suddenly at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Nov. 12. He was 71.

A resident of Salmon Valley, Mr. Little was born at Langstaff, Ont. on March 18, 1928. Before coming to Salmon Valley he served in the Merchant Marine. He operated the Salmon Valley General Store for fifteen years.

A member of the Legion, he was interested in naval ships. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marjorie, stepdaughters Anne Halliwell, Janice (Chris) Russell and Joyce (Stan) Holmes, and sister Janet Peters, in Ontario. He was predeceased by sisters Marjorie Trussell and Hazel Huntly.

The service was conducted at Mountain View Chapel with a tea following.

LIVADNEY

Ed Livadney service held

Funeral services for the late Edward Livadney was held April 6 at 10 a.m. at the Armstrong Seventh-Day Adventist Church following his death April 1.

Born on the family farm near Readlyn, Sask. On Nov. 27, 1917, Mr. Livadney married Bertha Obermayer on Feb. 18, 1943. Together they took up farming near the family homestead, where they remained until May 1983. They then retired and purchased a home at Westbank.

Mr. Livadney continued to be busy, helping wherever he could, on the church, school or for friends who needed some work done.

After 10 years living at Westbank, in May 1993 they sold and moved to Armstrong. Mr. Livadney liked people and enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Armstrong Activity Centre. He became frustrated when Parkinson’s disease hit him and he was no longer able to do the things which he enjoyed.

Mr. Livadney had a deep love for his family and for his God. He spent much time studying his Bible.

He also loved music and loved to sing the old gospel hymns.

For the last three weeks of his life, he lived at the Vernon & District Hospice House. His family will be forever grateful for the wonderful treatment he received at this new facility where they were all treated just like a family. Now they have a passion to help to keep it running so others can experience this same tender loving care.

Following the funeral service, interment took place at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kelowna.

Mr. Livadney is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bertha, his children Don (Margaret) Livadney at Terrace; Loanne (Norman) McLeod at Armstrong; Yvonne (Ernie) Northon of Lloydminster, Alta.; and Jerry (Kandy) Livadney at Lacombe, Alta., nine grandchildren, two sisters, Alice (John) Timothy at Bouldrer City, Nevada, and Esther (Cliff) Gardiner at Peachland and two brothers, Nick Livadney at Moose Jaw, Sask., and Wilfred (Alice) Livadney at Crawford, Nebraska.

LOCHHEAD

David Lochhead service at coast

Rev. Dr. David Lochhead, B. Sc., S.T.M., Ph. D., died peacefully at Saskatoon's Royal University Hospital on June 15.

He is the father of Rev. Jim Lochhead of Armstrong.

Born at Montreal on June 18, 1936, Dr. Lochhead grew up in and around Montreal. He studied math and theology at McGill University, Ocford, England; Union College 9Vancouver) and at Chicago. He served the church as Dean of Studies at St. Paul's College, Waterloo, Ont., principal of Coughlin College at St. John's, Nfld.; Minister, Thornbury Pastoral Charge, Ontario; profession of Systematic Theology, Vancouver School of Theology.

Dr. Lochhead was author of several books. His passion in recent years had been the impact of technology on church and society. He was a founding member of Ecunet and a pioneer of computer communications, particularly within the ecumenical community. He was active in interfaith and interdenominational dialogue through the United Church of Canada; and the Canadian Council of Churches.

Dr. Lochhead is survived by his family, Marta at Saskatoon; Francesca Derra at Vancouver; Jim, Penny and Morgan at Armstrong; Melanie at Victoria; Jennifer, Ellery, Beven and Aidan at Morristown, Ont.; Andrew at Courtenay; Gwynneth at Calgary; Rhonda and Ann at Maple Ridge; and sister, Meryl at Toronto, and many friends and colleagues around the world.

The funeral service is to be held at South Burnaby United Church at Burnaby, B.C.

David Samuel Long, 87, a resident of Armstrong for the past 35 years, died at his home on Rosedale Avenue. He came here from Red Deer, Alberta, where he had been a successful businessman for many years. He is survived by his widow.

Nellie Lopichuk service Dec. 4

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday for the late Nellie Lopichuk who died peacefully at Polson Extended Care at Vernon on Nov. 30. She was 86.

Born at Mountain Road, Elk Ranch, Manitoba on March 24, 1916, she married William Lopichuk at Neepawa on Feb. 18, 1939. The family lived in the area where they farmed for many years, moving to Armstrong in 1968. Mrs. Lopichuk, was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1990 and due to ill health, she moved to Vernon for care.

Mrs. Lopichuk is survived by daughter and son-in-law Fred and Marion Pulak at Red Cliff, Alta., two grandchildren, two great grandchildren; three sisters, Jennie Todoruk, Annie Baraniuk, both at Neepawa and Pauline Kozak at Brandon, Man., nieces and nephews.

The graveside service at Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery will be officiated by Alexander (Sandy) Atkinson. Friends may send condolences to the family at mvfh@canada.com.

Hugh Louttit service Nov.3

A longtime resident of the Armstrong area, Hugh Petar Louttit died at Enderby & District Memorial Hospital on Oct. 30 at the age of 77 years.

Mt. Louttit farmed in the area, enjoying nature and gardening. He was a good neighbor and friend to everyone.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice Morland, brother Don and sister Mable Ramsey, all of Armstrong, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Chapel this Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jim Lochhead officiating. Cremation.

LUKAS

Lukas service held Tuesday

A service of remembrance was being held Tuesday for the late Willem (Bill) Johannes Lukas who died July 31 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. He was 86.

Born in Holland, Mr. Lukas immigrated to Canada in 1953, first at Westlock, Alta., Calgary and Westbank. Twelve years ago he moved to Kelowna and only recently to Armstrong. He was a carpenter and general contractor who built several churches, something which he was very proud of having done.

Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife, Cornelia, at Armstrong, children Louise (Dave) McAree at Langley, Ben (Joyce) Lucas at Coquitlam, Ed (Sandy) Lucas at Armstrong and Edith (Ken) Sharp at Prince George, and 10 grandchildren, Also surviving are step children Sjaak (Ditte) and Renus (Ingrid), four step-grandchildren and two step great grandchildren, all in Holland, siblings Luke at Langley, Anne, Mien, Dien and Yan, all at Holland. Mr. Lucas was predeceased by his first wife, Martinette, in 1971.

The service was conducted by Rev. Arie DeVos. Cremation.

LUNDIN

Per Edward Lundin Long Time Resident Dies In 87th Year:

A resident of the Armstrong district since 1910, Per Edward Lundin passed away in Armstrong Hospital on Sunday, October 6.

Mr. Lundin was 87 years old at the time of his death. He was born at Lungvik, Sweden, coming to Canada in 1910, remaining here ever since.

He was educated in the old country, and in Sweden before coming to Canada he was employed as a sawyer. After coming here he worked for the railway until he retired in 1935.

Mr. Lundin was married at his home in Lungvik, Sweden, November 20, 1892.

Two brothers and three sisters predeceased him in Sweden. Residing here in Armstrong he leaves to mourn his passing his wife and two daughters, Miss Alice Lundin and Miss Esther Lundin.

Funeral services for the late Mr. Lundin will be held from Zion United Church on thursday, October 10 9today) at 2 p.m. with Rev. Walter Little conducting the services.

Pallbearers will be Messrs. W. Aslin, F. Simpson, W. Spelay, S. Zeleny, H. Austin and W.E. Wilson. Interment will be in the Armstrong Cemetery.

LUTTMERDING

A. Luttmerding service held

A private family memorial service was held Dec. 29 for Alfred Luttmerding following his death Dec. 25 at Kelowna General Hospital. He was 83.

The service was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Armstrong with Father Leo Boyd, O.M.I., officiating. Cremation followed the service with interment of cremains in Armstrong-Spallumcheen Cemetery at a later date.

Born June 12, 1916 in Austria/Hungary, the eighth child of August and Christina Luttmerding, he immigrated with his family to Canada in 1929 where they settled in Sedley, Sask.

As a young man, Mr. Luttmerding farmed in the Sedley area. He married Mary Levius in 1950 and three years later, in 1953, they moved in British Columbia and purchased a farm on the Back Enderby Road. He farmed there for the rest of his years and was still residing on the farm at the time of his death.

Mr. Luttmerding was a lover of nature and took great pleasure and pride in his flowers, gardens and show place yard. Raising exotic birds was another strong interest of his. At Christmastime, the Luttmerding home and yard were a spectacular showpiece of lights and decorations.

Mr. Luttmerding was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Mary, of almost 50 years; brother, Robert (Rita) at Armstrong; three sisters-in-law, Blanche at Armstrong, Winnie at Delta, Mary at Regina and many nieces and nephews and extended family members.

LUTTMERDING

Bernard (Bern) William Luttmerding, aged 17, died suddenly in a motor vehicle accident on Sat., April 24, 1999. Bern was born Sept. 8, 1981 in Armstrong and lived all of his life at the family farm on Back Enderby Road. He attended grades one to seven at Highland Park Elementary School and grades eight to twelve at Pleasant Valley Secondary School. He had completed grade 12 in January of this year and was awaiting graduation ceremonies in June. Bern worked at Armstrong Machine Shop and was entering into an apprenticeship program there. For Bern, working at the machine shop was more than just a job, it was a passion, and one he took to with everything he had to give. To Bern his co-workers were like an extended family. Bern was a wonderful son and brother. With his quick wit, sentimental nature, creative talents, and ability to make friends, he brought great joy to all who knew him. He was quick-tempered but just as quick to forgive. He lived his life to the fullest and was a true and loyal friend. Bern had great patience with young children and had formed a special bond with his youngest sister, Kristen, aged 4, for whom he always had time. He and his brother and sisters shared many close times and anything they did together became more of a game than a chore. Bern was a person who had time for anyone. His life was spent creating; first with lego and model cars, then into Dad's shop fixing cars and welding together his inventions. He was also an avid reader, imaginative writer, loved board games and was a great joke and story-teller. Bern is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his parents, Bob and Wendy Luttmerding; one brother, Adam; three sisters, Erin, Maryanne and Kristen. His is also missed by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Rita Luttmerding, and matenal grandparents, Harold and Eleanor Galbraith, all of Armstrong; aunts and uncles, Sharon and Ed Birnie (Aldergrove). Gary and Sharlene Galbraith 9Langley), Dwain and Brenda Galbraith (Armstrong), Eric and Branda Luttmerding (Armstrong), Arnie and Bonnie Luttermerding (Armstrong), Anne and Ken Kelly (Vernon), as well as many cousins and extended family members and friends. Bern was recently predeceased by his loving aunts, Lynn Kutzner and Agnes Warnke. Mass of the Christian Burial was held Thurs., April 29 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Armstrong, Father Leo Boyd, O.M.I. celebrant, assisted by Father Peter Luttmer. Funeral Service was held at Armstrong Bible Chapel on Fri., April 30 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Lochhead officiating. The eulogy was written by Bern's sister Erin and read by Rev. Lochhead. Special memorial speeches were given by Laurie Haller, Brent Brown, and Arnie Luttmerding. Bern's aunt, Brenda Galbraith, sang "Amazing Grace" accompanied by Irene Brown, pianist. Pallbearers were Adam Luttmerding, Cameron Whyte, Laurie Haller, Kit Wellburn, Russell Huband and Allan Norlin. Honorary Bearers were Bern's friends and the Grad Class of 1999. Interment followed at Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery. Stephen Wood piped Bern to his final resting place. A reception was held at St. Joseph'e Parish Hall following the committal service and then family and friends gathered at the Luttmerding farm. Mountain View Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.

LUTZ

Bill Lutz service Saturday

Memorial services will be held this Saturday for a well-known area businessman, William "Bill" Lutz of Enderby, who died Dec. 29.

The service will be held at Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall, Vernon with Mountain View Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements. Cremation.

Born at Moosehorn, Man. in 1924, he moved with his family to Winnipeg in 1930. In 1942 he came to the Enderby area where he met and married Karin Stabeck in 1946. He was a longstanding member of the Jehovah Witness congregation at Enderby.

Mr. Lutz also was known for his enthusiasm in business, owning and operating Enderby Electric and Armstrong Electric and Appliances. He also was agent for Greyhound Bus lines.

Mr. Lutz is survived by his wife, Karin at Enderby, daughter Betty Ann (Gil) Phillips at Red Deer, granddaughters Shelli Bolton and Kristi Bolton and great grandchildren Shaun David William and Lee-Ann Katherine; daughter Candy (Greg) Schley at Enderby; grandchildren Calen and Taylor Schley; son Dan (Korine) Lutz at Enderby; grandchildren Andy and Kristen Lutz. As well, he is survived by his brothers and sisters, Ann (Elmer) Brown ar Kamloops, Mary Olund at Salmon Arm, Lawrence (Maria) Lutz at Kamloops, Roy (Nedra) Lutz at Red Deer, Joan (Robert) McElman at Kingston, N.S. and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lutz was predeceased by his parents, John and Emma Lutz, son Gary Lutz in 1966 and brother David Lutz.

Donations in lieu of fowers may be made to the Okanagan Assembly Centre of Jehovah Witness, Vernon.

LYNN

Frank Lynn service held

A service of remembrance was held Tuesday afternoon following the death Feb. 21 of Frank Reginald Lynn.

Mr. Lynn died suddenly at Armstrong at the age of 82.

Born at Hughton, Sask. on Dec. 11, 1920, he farmed at Cecil Lake for many years before retiring to Armstrong in 1989. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was active in the Armstrong Seniors Centre. Mr. Lynn enjoyed playing pool, quilting and woodworking.

The service of remembrance, held at Mountain View Funeral Chapel was officiated by Rev. Lorraine Powell. Following the service, friends gathered with the family for refreshments at the Chapel Tearoom.

Mr. Lynn is survived by his wife, Hazel, at Armstrong, two daughters Mary Allen (Bryon Cox) at Prince Rupert and Betty (John) Gowman at Rose Prairie, B.C., son Jim (Coleen) Lynn at Edmonton, four grandchildren Christy and Timber Allen, Joel and Trevor Gowman; twin sister Frances (Floyd) Readman at Westbank, and extended family.

Memorial donations in Frank's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
