MCCALLAN Mary McCallan service held. A service of remembrance was held Monday for the late Mary Lillian McCallan who died peacefully at her home on May 3 at the age of 63 years. The service was held at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Jones officiating. Cremation. Born at Kamloops, Mrs. McCallan was a long time resident at Armstrong. She worked as a registered nurse at the Armstrong Hospital for many years. She also was active in sports, particularly curling. Predeceased by her husband, Skip McCallan in 1980, she is survived by two sons Norm at Penticton, Brian (Sharien) at Vernon and Lisa at Armstrong, grandson Tyler and sister-in-law Berniece McCallan (John) at Armstrong. MCCALLAN Mary McCallan true-blue Mom A service of remembrance was held at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home May 7 for the late Mary Lillian McCallan (nee Linnell) with Rev. Ken Jones officiating. Mary died peacefully at her home on May 3 at the age of 63 years. Born and educated at Kamloops, Mary entered nurses training and graduated RN from Vancouver General Hospital in 1959. Mary married Skip McCallan in 1960 and she worked at both the Vernon Jubilee Hospital and Armstrong Hospital. She was a member of the Armstrong Curling Club and Spallumcheen Golf Club. She loved the outdoors and had many great experiences at her brother’s fishing lodge. She enjoyed every summer at the cabin on Okanagan Lake, spending time with her children, neighbors and many friends. Mary McCallan will be remembered as a passionate person, great friend and a true-blue Mom. She was predeceased by her husband, Skip in 1980, brothers Bill and Dan Linnell and sister-in-law Sheila Rear. She is survived by sons Brian (Sharien) at Vernon, Norm at Penticton, daughter Lisa and grandson Tyler at Armstrong, sister Marjorie Denroche at Sooke and sister-in-law Bernice (John) at Armstrong. McCORD Keith McCord service held A memorial service was held June 19 for a long time area resident, Keith Wesley McCord, who died peacefully at his Armstrong home on June 17. He was 72. Mr. McCord and his wife, Judy, were married at Princeton in 1953. They lived at various locations throughout B.C. before moving to Armstrong in 1964. Mr. McCord worked for the Township of Spallumcheen’s works department for 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed spending time with his family, curling, watching sports events and visiting with his buddies. The memorial service was conducted by Rev. Lorraine Powell at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home. Cremation. Mr. McCord is survived by his wife, Judy, five daughters Marlene Jacklin at Saskatoon, Yvonne (Harvey) Duggan at Kelowna, Kim McCord at Vancouver, Vicki (Glen) Anthony at Trail and Gerri McCord at Burnaby, son Mickey (Deb) McCord of Saskatoon, 13 grandchildren, as well as sisters Opal Meldrum and Midge Marriot. MCDONALD Early resident dies in East A former resident of Armstrong with strong ties to the community, Edna Grace McDonald, died March 27 at Glengarry Memorial Hospital at Alexandria, Ont. Edna was born at Armstrong on Nov. 29, 1910, the daughter of John H. and Alice Wilson. Receiving her early education here, she moved to Vancouver in the twenties for work, later going to Ontario. She married in 1940. Mrs. McDonald has lived at Lancaster, Ont. for the past 60 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Athol in 1976, parents, tow sisters, Lily McKechnie at Armstrong and Edith Sutherland at North Vancouver. She is survived by three daughters, Diane and Kathryn at Cornwall, Ont., Karin at Kirk Hill, Ont., a son Richard at Medicine Hat, Alta. and sister Doris Spall at Kelowna. The funeral was held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church at South Lancaster, Ont. on March 31. Mrs. McDonald last visited Armstrong some years ago when the surviving sisters were here to celebrate Lily McKechnie's 80th birthday. Armstrong Advertiser April 26, 2000
McHUGH Charles McHugh death recorded A family memorial service will be held at a later date following the death April 13 of Charles Oscar Wellington McHugh at Vernon Jubilee Hospital while in his 82nd year.Mr. McHugh moved to Armstrong three years ago to be closer to his daughter, Charlette Lavik. Born at Cabri, Sask. In 1919, he spent the early years of his life in northern Alberta where he developed his lifelong love of nature, hunting and fishing. When the Second World War broke out in 1939, he volunteered and served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment. He returned to civilian life in 1945 after seeing three years of front line action in France. Soon after returning to Canada, Charlie settled his family in the Williams Lake area where he managed to mix his love of nature with employment. He worked in various aspects o the lumber industry, from faller to trucking contractor. He also turned his hand at gold prospecting and staked various claims as well as doing some placer mining. Mr. McHugh spent the last 20 years of his working life with the B.C. Liquor Control Board where he rose through the ranks to become assistant vendor of the Williams Lake Liquor Store. On one of their hundreds of hunting trips, Charlie and his wife, Helen, came upon a natural spring flowing with excellent drinking water near Williams Lake. They decided to build their home near by and took advantage of the spring water. They were always proud of the fact that this unnamed source of water now shows on the forestry maps as ‘McHugh Springs". Mr. McHugh retired in the early eighties and thoroughly enjoyed his golden years. Now he had time to fish, hunt and putter as he made fishing tackle and loved to gather firewood from the bush. His wife of 55 years predeceased him on Oct. 10, 1997. hey are survived by two daughters,Hazel Chamberlain at Calgary and Charlette Lavik at Armstrong, son-in-laws Donald chamberlain and Leonard Lavik. Charles also is the grandfather of Chris Chamberlain, Michelle O’Reilly, Trevor Lavik and Tannis Lavik, all at Calgary and great grandfather of Tye and Janay Chamberlain and Conner, Kathleen, Shannon and Tommy O’Rielly. McKAY Gladys M. McKay Passes Suddenly The community was shocked to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Gladys Mildred McKay. wife of Mr. Kenneth McKay, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred McKinley on Fletcher Avenue, Sunday morning, October 6th. Mrs. McKay had been under doctor's care for quite some time and had consulted with a specialist in Vernon earlier in the week. Had no improvement been evident she was to have entered the Vernon Hospital the first of this week for further observation. She was born at Lower Onslow, Nova Scotia, and was in her 45th year at the time of her sudden passing. Mr. and Mrs. McKay were married at Brooks, Alberta, on June 16, 1932, where they lived until coming to the Armstrong district in May of 1944. Mrs. McKay was a member of Zion United Church and an active worker in the Women's groups and other church activities. Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her passing a son, Kenneth Fred McKay of Vanderhoof, B.C., and a daughter, Elizabeth Jean, (Mrs. R. D. Burke) of Rutland. She also leaves both of her sorrowing parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. McKinley, and two brothers, Ralph B. McKinley of Armstrong and Aubrey G. (Jack) McKinley of Medicine Hat, Alta. Services were conducted from Zion United Church on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., October 9th, with Rev. Walter Little officiating. Interment was in Armstrong Cemetery. Pallbearers were Messrs. McLENNAN Evelyn McLennan celebration held A celebration of Evelyn Doris McLennan's life was held at the Royal Canadian Legion at Armstrong, Monday at 1 p.m., following her death at her home at Armstrong on Jan. 29. She was 74. Mrs. McLennan is remembered by her long-time companion Ken Helmig, daughter Doreen (Ray) at Armstrong, sons Dennis (Linda) at Armstrong, Lorne (Kim) at Kelowna and Alex at Winfield. Also surviving are grandchildren Donnlea, Erin, Jeanette and Michael, Kailyn and Shayla as great grandchildren Christopher, Jessica, Hailee and Mason. Mrs. McLennan was predeceased by her husband, Ian, and son, Bruce. She will be laid to rest with her husband and son at Kelowna. Armstrong Advertiser 5 Feb 2003
MCNAIR McNair service held May 4. A memorial service for the late William Melvin McNair was held May 4 at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home. He died at his Armstrong home surrounded by loved ones on April 30 at the age of 71 years. Born at Armstrong on Jan. 30, 1930, he was the son of Melvin and Esther McNair. At an early age Mr. McNair started working for the Canadian Pacific Railroad at Revelstoke. He later worked for quite some time in the logging camps on Vancouver, joining the Royal Canadian Navy in 1950 and transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 to work for Parks Canada at Calgary and in the Rogers Pass. He also owned and operated his own highway trucks and finally worked for the Township of Spallumcheen’s works department until retiring in 1991. Mr. McNair is survived by his wife, Lieselotte, of 44 years and his children Dennis (Kimberly) McNair at Calgary, Esther (Brian) Pedersen at Edmonton, Gary McNair and Dorothy McNair, both at Calgary; grandchildren Jeffery, Crystal, Stephen and Danielle McNair; sisters Barbara Jean Williamson (Ross deceased) at Armstrong and Dorothy (Doug) Allan at Savona; close cousins Virginia (Doug) Wray at Surrey, Mary (Ken) Greenwood at Greenlake, B.C. and Terry A. (Carol) McNair at New Westminster. The 1 p.m. service on May 4 was conducted by Rev. Chris Harwood-Jones. Mountain View Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. MCMULLAN W.J. McMullan service Oct. 12 Funeral service for the late William James McMullan, 72, will be held in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Oct. 12 at 1:00 p.m. Mr. McMullan died at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Oct. 7. A resident of Armstrong for the past 30 years, Mr. McMullan was born at Boissevain, Man. On Nov. 12, 1927. He moved to Dawson Creek in 1956 and on to Armstrong in 1961. While in Manitoba, Mr. McMullan worked for Manitoba Hydro and Chapman Motors. Later in Armstrong, he owned and operated the Coffee Wagon and Crane’s Drive-Inn. Mr. McMullan was predeceased by his parents, William and Elizabeth McMullan; two brothers and one sister***and his family of two sons, Kenneth (Nancy) at Vernon, Aubrey at Arnmstrong and daughter Annette Webb (Derek) at Vernon; grandchildren, Kimberly Magnant (Wade) at Fort St. John, Jennifer, Kristi, Kevin, all McMullans, Kristina Senger and Cody Webb; one brother, George at Red Deer, Alta., sister Marilyn Munro at Brandon, Man.; two sisters-in-law. Thelma McMullan at Brandon, Man., Muriel McMullan at Calgary; brother-in-law Kelvin Fraser at Calgary and extended family members. MACDONALD S.A. MacDonald service held A celebration of life was held Jan. 6 for the late Stuart Allan MacDonald who died at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Jan. 1 at the age of 60 years. The 11 a.m. service was held at Mountain View Funeral Chapel. Cremation. Following the service, a tea was held at the home of his mother-in-law, Fran Elstad at Vernon. Mr. MacDonald was born at McKees Mills, N.B. on Dec. 27, 1940. He came from a large family. For 15 years before moving to Armstrong, six and one half years ago, Mr. MacDonald had been a resident at Prince George. He is survived by his wife, Gayle, at Armstrong, daughers Lee (Calvin) Adams and Debbie MacDonald (Simon) at Mission, new-found daughter Susan Gray in Nova Scotia and grandchildren Kyle, Curtis, Dean, Joey and Cindy. MACDOUGAL Keri Anne MacDougal With sadness we announce the passing of Keri Anne on February 7, 2000 at the Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We have been blessed with Keri's life since her birth on May 12, 1978 at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. Keri's life was a special gift to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by her parents, DiAnne and Kent, brother Russell, sister Krystal, grandmother Arlene MacDougall and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Keri Anne was predeceased by her grandparents Doug and Donelda Tucker and by her grandfather Chesley MacDougall. Being unable to communicate in the conventional method did not prevent Keri from interacting with people. She demanded her due from the world and and with kindness and true grace, she generally received it. Keri came into this world creating a commotion, she lived her life in the same way and in true Keri fashion, she left this world in the same way she came in. Keri, from Mom, Dad, Krystal, Russell, and all of your relatives and people who loved you, "You are the Wind Beneath 'Our Wings'". The family would like to extend their special thanks to John, Ann and Christopher Allan as well as Keri's friend and personal caregiver, Shereese Qually. Our sincere thanks to the St. Boniface Hospital and Grace General Hospital ICU for their care of Keri during her time there. MACKENZIE Private service for MacKenzie A private service was held Dec. 30 for Olive MacKenzie, a former resident of Armstrong. Mrs. MacKenzie died at Bevan Lodge at Abbotsford. Born Oct. 21, 1919 at Vancouver, she was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Keith, sons Glenn (Linda) at Prince George, John at Williams Lake, daughters Donna Dyck (Marvin), Lois MacKenzie and Sheila MacKenzie, all at Abbotsford and Janet MacKenzie (Dennis) at Vancouver. MACKENZIE A memorial service will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. for the late Ronald George MacKenzie who died June 25 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 58 years. Mr. MacKenzie was a resident of the Armstrong-Vernon area since 1974. The service will be conducted at All Saints’ Anglican Church at Vernon with Canon Peter Davison officiating. Mr. MacKenzie was a civil engineer technologist with B.C. Hydro for more than 25 years. He was a longtime member of Elks and Rotary and enjoyed all sports including hunting and fishing. Mr. MacKenzie is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughters Melissa (Martin) Stobbe at Armstrong and Michele MacKenzie at Vancouver; grandchildren Nicole, Erika and Danielle Stobbe; mother Lucille MacKenzie at Vernon, brother Ray (Joan) at Regina; sisters Ione Ryan at Whitehorse and Donnad MacKenzie at Vernon and extended family members. MacNAUGHTON MacNaughton death reported Area resident James Alexander MacNaughton died at Shuswap Lake General Hospital on Dec. 29 at the age of 86. Born at Flodden, Que., he moved to the Lower Mainland in 1948 and remained there until 1960 when he moved to Clinton. In 1969, he returned to Quebec for three years before going back to the Lower Mainland. In 1996, he and his wife moved to the Armstrong/Enderby area. Mr. MacNaughton served overseas during the Second World War and was active in the community and the Royal Canadian Legion. He is survived by his wife, Rachael, at Enderby, son John (Donna) at Enderby, daughter Gail Flemming at Lesquiti Island, three grandchildren, brother Donald, sister Helen and extended family members. MADDOCKS Gerry Maddocks funeral held Funeral service for the late Geraldine Louise Maddocks was held Nov. 3 at Armstrong Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Mrs. Maddocks died peacefully at her home at Armstrong on Oct. 31 at the age of 59 years. Born at Medicine Hat, Alta. On March 13, 1941, she moved with her family to Trail and then attended University of Victoria, obtaining a degree in education. Mrs. Maddocks has lived at Armstrong since 1961 where she taught school for several years. Her interests included family and Seventh-Day Adventist Church activities where she also taught Vacation Bible School. She is survived by her husband, Barry, at Armstrong, daughter Koby (Murray) Vaneck-Vallis at New Hazelton, two sons Todd at Walla Walla, Wash., and Kyle (Celeste) at College Place, Wash., grandchildren Leah, Lynn and Josh Vaneck, Todd Jr., Shawn, Drew and Cadyn Maddocks. The funeral service was conducted at* Pastor Everest Potgieter at 11 a.m. on Nov. 3. Interment followed in Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery. Mountain View Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. MAGILL Robert Magill service April 16 A service of remembrance was held on April 16 for the late Robert Edwin Magill who died at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on April 13 at the age of 70 years. The service was held at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jim Lochhead officiating. Mr. Magill was a retired Ships Master and he worked on boats for most of his life. Starting at the age of 17 for the Merchant Service during the Second World War, he ended his career working in the Beaufort Sea and Arctic Ocean for Northern Transportation Company Ltd. of Edmonton, Alta. Mr. Magill also was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br, #35, Spallumcheen Lodge #13 Am & FM, Okanagan Lodge of Perfection, Scottish Rites, past president of Kindale Developmental Association, past president of 1st Armstrong Boy Scouts Group Committee and an avid amateur ham radio operator. His leisure interests included fishing and camping with his many close friends. Mr. Magill is survived by his wife, Faye, at Armstrong; daughter Kimm (husband Rick) Hofmann at Salmon Arm, sons Robert at Armstrong, Partick (wife Michelle) at Edmonton, John at Calgary, step daughter Teresa Oystreck at Calgary, step sons Bill Oystreck (wife Florence) at Calgary and Trevor Oystreck at Toronto; and grandsons Keegan and David Hofmann and Jarid Magill (son of Patrick). Also surviving are brother Bill (wife Joanne) at Delta, sisters Avourneen (husband Ron) Thompson at Kamloops, Maureen (husband Chuck) Campbell at Dawson Creek, Margaret (husband Archie) Warbrick at courtenay and Kay (husband Mel) Fitzgerald at Agassiz as well as sister-in-laws Shirley Rowbotham (husband Bill deceased), at Port Edward and Patricia (husband Gary) White at Kimberley. Others surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and extended family and friends. Mr. Magill was predeceased by his first wife, Icvadell, grandson Ryan Andrew Magill (son of Patrick), his parents Robert and Kathleen, and three brotheres, Norman, Fraser and George. Following the service, a tea was held at the chapel. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. MALARCHUK Funeral services for the late Angeline "Elsie" Malarchuk will be at* Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Funeral Chapel at Armstrong. Mrs. Malarchuk died peacefully at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Feb. 11 at the age of 85. Born and raised at Norquay, Sask., she had lived in the Pas-Lyon Lake area for 25 years before moving to Neepawa, Man. In 1969. In 1989, she moved to Armstrong. Mrs. Malarchuk enjoyed her family, volunteering in church activities, flowers, music and singing. She also did many lovely quilts, embroidering and needlepoint. Mrs. Malarchuk is survived by her son David (Marsha) at Calgary, daughters Faythe (Doug) Frame at Edmonton and Sandra (Ken) Mather at Spallumcheen as well as six grandchildren and sister Clara Kindrasky at Norquay, Sask. She was predeceased by her husband, Dick, in 1990 and one brother, Michael Kyba. For some time after the death of her husband, Mrs. Malarchuk had lived at Green Valley Estates before being transferred to Alexander Wing at Vernon. The service will be officiated by Pastor Ray Bale. MALLORY MALLORY: Paul G. Mallory peacefully passed away in Summerland on Tues., March 6, 2001 at the age of 77 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene, two daughter – Margaret Arvidson and husband Greg of Prince George, Susan Mallory and husband Ritch Brisbourne of Kelowna, two grandchildren, one brother – Lawrence and his wife Grace of Penticton, two sisters – Phyllis Fraser of New Westminster, Marjorie Howes of Penticton, and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family who meant a great deal to him. Funeral service was held on Mon., March 12 at 2:00 p.m. from the Legion Hall in Okanagan Falls with Legion Padre Rick Gay officiating. MANIFOLD MANIFOLD: Brandon (Beanz) Morley Manifold died accidently near Armstrong, B.C. on Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999 at the age of 26 years. Born in Surrey, Brandon had lived in the area since age 4. He attended school in Enderby and had just moved to Armstrong where he was employed with Unifeed Products. During his life his interests were motorbikes, snowmobiles, skiing , fishing, hockey and all outdoors. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family, parents Betty Lou Simpson, Enderby, Jack Simpson, Enderby, brother Trevor (Lori), Enderby, sister Tricia (Tony), Enderby, stepbrothers and sisters, Dean Simpson (Tammy), Prince George, Tammy, Enderby, Jeff Simpson (Karen), Enderby, father Bill Manifold, Vernon, grandparents, Ella Morley, Langley, Bill and Janet Manifold, Surrey, B.C., uncles and aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. The same newspaper hasd the headline "Motorcycle crash kills Armstrong man": An Armstrong man died in a motorcyle crash at the 4800 block of Schubert rd., Sept 4. Brandon Manifold, 26, died when he lost control of his 1985 Kawasaki Ninja 900 cc motorcycle on a curve at about 3:15 a.m., skidded off the road and collided with a tree. Skid marks on the road indicate he attempted to slow down before losing control of the motorcycle. And it appears speed was a contributing factor in the accident, police report. MANIFOLD Funeral held for Manifold Funeral for an Armstrong man, Brandon (Beanz) Morley was held Tuesday following his accidental death Sept. 4 on a motorcycle near Armstrong. He was 26. MARSHALL Bert Marshall service held Funeral service for the late William Albert "Bert" Marshall was held at Armstrong Bible Chapel on May 7 following his death at Enderby & District Memorial Hospital on April 30. He was 74. Born at Armstrong, Mr. Marshall lived in the Armstrong and Enderby areas throughout his life with the exception of the time spent overseas during the Second World War. Throughout his life, he farmed and logged. He also enjoyed his family, friends and gardening. MASON Louis Mason Mass Saturday Services for the late Louis Henry Mason will be held Saturday following his death at his residence on Jarvis St. on Jan. 21. He was 95. A longtime resident of Armstrong, Mr. Mason was born and raised at St. Paul, Minnesota. It was there he met his future wife, Catherine, whom he married in 1926. The Masons lived at Leask, Sask., for a time before moving to Armstrong in 1944. He worked as a mechanic for Okanagan Garage (later Fletcher’s GM) until retiring in 1967. After he retired, Louis continued to drop down to the garage on Mondays to help change oil and tires. He also liked to "scrounge", or pick up items at garage sales to help "fix things" and help other people with house and car repairs. Mr. Mason enjoyed his family, friends and going especially fishing. He was a long time active member of the Armstrong and District Fish and Game Club. Predeceased by his wife in 1978 and daughter Eleanor in 2000, Mr. Mason is survived by daughter Chris (Andy) Teslyk at Moberly Lake, B.C. and her children Michael, Robert and James, Eleanor’s children Valerie, Duane and David as well as nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Prayers will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Fri., Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Sat., Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Leo Boyd O.M.I. celebrant. MASON Len Mason service Nov. 3 Funeral services for the late Leonard Donald Mason will be held Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. following his death at his home at Armstrong on Oct. 24. He was 70. MATTHEWS Brad Matthews service Monday A memorial service for the late John Bradford "Brad" Matthews was held Monday at 2 p.m. at Armstrong Bible Chapel. Mr. Matthews died suddenly at his residence near Armstrong on July 19. Born at Vancouver on March 8, 1956, he grew up on the Sunshine Coast. Coming to Armstrong with his family seven years ago, Mr. Matthews worked out and farmed part time, later farming full time. He was a hard working, neighborly devoted father and husband. MEERES Mrs. Anne Meeres Funeral Services Here Last Thursday "Death claimed Mrs. Anne Meeres, 1785 Lewis Ave., Courtenay, at the Fort Private Hospital, Comox, Saturday (March 12) following an illness of seven months. "Born at Kirkcudbright, Scotland, 85 years ago, Mrs. Meeres came to Canada in 1887 and had lived in B.C. since 1919. "Predeceased by her husband, Thomas, in 1942, Mrs. Meeres leaves three daughters, Mrs. A.J. Provost, Invermere; Mrs. J.D. Hetherington, Vancouver; and Mrs. C.J. Heath, Red Deere*, Alberta; and three sons, W.T. and E.J. Meeres, Vancouver; and Douglas, Courtenay. "There are 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren." - Comox District Free Press. The late Mrs. Meeres resided for a number of years prior to the death of her husband, on Pleasant Valley Road, the property now owned by A. Samay. MELIN Philip Melin funeral held A funeral service for a former Armstrong resident, Philip Melin, was held June 27 at Westlock, Alta. following his death June 24 at that community. He was 75. Born at Veteran, Alta., Mr. Melin was a plumber and gas fitter throughout his working life. Between 1973 and 1985, he lived at Armstrong, working for Ron Brown Plumbing & Heating. He curled on the company's team as well as enjoyed golf and coaching boys baseball. The funeral service was held at Westlock Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lilley Glebe officiating. Interment followed in the Westlock Cemetery. MERWIN Ed Merwin service May 8 A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (May 8) for the late Edwin "Ed" Merwin who died May 5 at Vernon Hospice House. He was 80. Mr. Merwin grew up in Saskatchewan, served with the Canadian Armed Forces overseas for five years, returning to B.C. after the war. He settled at Fort St. John and retired to the Okanagan Valley in 1986. In 1990, the Merwins moved to Armstrong where they have since resided. MILLAR Trevor Millar service held A service of remembrance was held Sept. 30 for the late Trevor Carsen Millar, 14, who died suddenly on Sept. 27 at his Armstrong residence. MILLER Services held for A.A. Miller A former resident if Armstrong, Angela Adeline Miller, died peacefully at Gateby Extended Care Home at Vernon on May 12 at the age of 89 years. Mrs. Miller lived at Armstrong form 1950 to 1966 when she moved to Enderby where she resided until moving into Gateby in April, 1944. She enjoyed her family, flowers, music, church, hockey and shoes, of which she had many pairs. Mrs. Miller is survived by sons Dennis (Shirley) at Vernon and Douglas (Joanne) at Enderby; daughters Phyllis (Norm) Schultz at Vernon, Barbara Ellen Cryak at Edson, Alta., Karen (Ray) Gosselin at 100 Mile House and Elaine (George) Beck at Vernon. Also surviving her are 21 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; husband Frank in 1994, daughter Kathleen Canuel, son-in-law, Cliff, one sister Pauline and four brothers, Mike, George, Peter and Florian. MILLS Mills service held Tuesday Funeral service for a long time Armstrong resident, Celia Mills, was held Tuesday at Zion United Church. Mrs. Mills died at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on May 24 at the age of 87 years. The service was conducted by Rev. MILLS Monica Mills death noted A long time Armstrong resident, Monica Mills (nee Greening) died June 15 at Pleasant Valley Manor at the age of 86 years. Born at Vernon on April 23, 1916, she lived in the North Okanagan throughout her lifetime. During the Second World War, Monica delivered the mail to residents living on Grandview Flats. She later became a long time employee with The Armstrong ADvertiser, handling the books and greeting and helping customers at the counter. Monica will always be remembered for her faithfulness in writing letters to others. In respecting her wishes, Mrs. Mills was cremated and a private family service will be held in the fall when her cremated remains will be laid to rest with her husband in Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Janet and Larry Ingraham; two grandsons, Gordon and Micheal and one very special great grandson, Chase, all at Vernon. She also is survived by sister and brother-in-law Gwen and Elmer Webb at Richmond, two nieces Lynne (Jim) Howden and Wendy Webb 9Dieter), nephew Bill Webb and many other extended family members. MITCHELL Mitchell service held on May 19 Funeral service for Richard Dooley Mitchell was held May 19 at Enderby following his sudden death at Enderby on May 15. He was 53. MOASE Eva Moase service Jan. 12 A celebration of life will be held this Saturday at 100 Mile House for a former Armstrong resident, Eva Lucille Moase, who died Dec. 22 at the age of 90. Born at Armstrong, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ethel Clayton of Armstrong. In 1931, she married Phillip Moase of Revelstoke. They resided at Salmon Arm, Vancouver and since 1975 she has lived at Sheridan Lake. MOLLER Many attend Moller service More than 500 attended the funeral April 26 for the late John William Moller at Red Deer, Alta. Mr. Moller, born Sept. 16, 1939 at Armstrong, died at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre following a battle with A.L.S. The service was held at Sunnybrook United Church with Rev. Mary Ellen Moore officiating. During his early years at Armstrong, Mr. Moller was a popular athlete, excelling particularly in high school basketball. He went on to join the RCMP and served as a member for 22 years. His passion and dedication was to minor sport, especially hockey in Central Alberta. MORIN Emma Morin services held Services for the late Emma Elizabeth Morin were held last week following her death at the Vernon Transition Care Unit of Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Feb. 20 at the age of 78. She had suffered for a long time with cancer. Born at Manitoba on June 16, 1923, she lived with her family on their farm until she met Malcolm Morin at a friend’s wedding and they were married on Sept. 2, 1956. The couple moved to Hull, Que. where Mr. Morin was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. After her husband’s death in 1962, Mrs. Morin returned to Saskatchewan with her daughter, Estelle, where they lived with her mother until 1974. Mrs. Morin decided to make a fresh start and moved to Armstrong with her daughter. Mrs. Morin was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the C.W.L. and had been a member of the choir who sang in seniors homes and at other communities. She was very crafty and enjoyed knitting and crocheting for her friends, family and for church causes. She also had a green thumb and her yard and gardens were always beautiful and thriving. In 1997, she moved into her apartment were* she remained for the rest of her life. Mrs. Morin in survived by her daughter, Estelle (Derk) Laponder at Falkland, grandchildren Bonnie, Derrick and Stephanie, her future grandson-in-law, Terry and great granddaughter Mekaila, sister Caroline, brothers John (Irene), Fred and Bill, many nephews and nieces from across Canada. Mrs. Morin was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm John Morin, parents Rudolf and Mary Schappert, sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Rudolf Faustman, brother and sister-in-law Rudy and Eva Schappert, brother-in-law Daniel Fuhr. MORROW Irene Morrow service Jan.9 A celebration of life will be held Jan. 9 for the late Irene Morrow (Dickson) who died at Polson North Extended Care on Jan. 5 at the age of 87. She was a long time Armstrong area resident. Born at Hullcar in 1914 to William and Jennie Pringle, she died three days short of her 88th birthday. Irene Pringle graduated from Royal Inland Hospital at Kamloops in 1936 at the top of her class. She was a nurse who was loved by all due to her dedication and the sense of duty to the nursing profession. She worked at Tanquille and later as an OR specialist at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Irene and her husband, Bill, returned to Armstrong in 1944 where she continued to relieve and do private nursing while raising their family. In 1957, Mrs. Dickson returned full time to nursing, a profession she loved. She had a lifelong membership in the Presbyterian Church, enjoying many years of useful service in a variety of positions. Irene also earned her 500 hours as a Vernon Jubilee Hospital volunteer, and spent many years active in the Coldstream Women's Institute. Irene was predeceased by her first husband, Bill Dickson in 1963 and George Morrow in 2000. Irene and George enjoyed extensive travel all over the world and in later years spent each winter in the sunny south. She is survived by her two daughters Moyreen Tucker (Walt) at Vernon and Joan Keddie at Surrey, five grandchildren, Robert (Shelley) McKechnie, Heather (Allan) King, Barbara McKechnie, Lisa and Carolyn Keddie and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving are sister Edith and brother Leslie (Connie) as well as many nephews and nieces. Throughout her life, Irene was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother as well as a sister and friend. She had a heart of gold and a cheery smile for everyone. The service will be held at 1 p.m. from St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Cremation. A committal service will be held in the spring. MOTKOSKI Stan Motkoski funeral held Funeral services were held at Edmonton on May 8 for a former Armstrong resident, Stan Motkoski. Mr. Motkoski lived on Mountain View Rd. for many years. Moving from Kelowna, he opened the Dundee Rock & Gem shop on Okanagan St. where he manufactured and sold many items with Ocean Picture Rock. He later operated Cherry Lane Antiques. Mr. Motkoski had interests in a truck and gravel business in addition to his retail operations. He is survived by his wife, Angie, and four daughters; Shannon at Edmonton, Laura at Kelowna, Corrine at Aldergrove and Darlene at Whitecourt, Alta., and 10 grandchildren. MUELLER Billy Mueller service Thursday Memorial services will be held on Jan. 18 (this Thursday) for the late Billy Reginald Mueller of Armstrong who died Jan. 13 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. He was 71. Born in Minnesota, Billy moved to Alaska when he was only 10 years old. In 1971 he moved to Whitehorse, Yukon where he resided until retiring to Armstrong in 1995. His working career was spent in the hotel/hospitality industry. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Mueller was active in the community. Here he was a director on the Laird Improvement District’s water board. He was known for his dry wit and he always had the other person’s best interests at heart. He is survived by his wife, Joanne, at Armstrong, daughter Tami Pate in California, son Kris Mueller at Anchorage, Alaska, step-daughter Lynda at Spokane, Wash., granddaughter Michelle, sister Joan Markley and Judy Jett, both in Alaska, Gail Hammock in Missouri and many nieces and nephews, He was predeceased by his parents, sister Audrey and brother Gary. The memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. at Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Don Lindsay officiating. A tea will be held in the chapel reception room following the service.
