OBERLE

Oberle service held on Monday

A celebration of life was held Monday at Mountain View Funeral Chapel for the late Violet Nora Oberle who died at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Feb. 27. She was 89.

Violet has lived at Armstrong for more than 50 years. She enjoyed taking care of her family and visiting with friends. Mrs. Oberle is survived by her husband, Andy, at Armstrong, son Michael Oberle at Salmon Arm, daughters Kathy Oberle (Peter Kretowicz) at Enderby and Joyce (Murf) Murphy at Comox, grandchildren Trevor, Jody (Lloyd), Pat, Kevin, Chris, Nicki, Tarrell, Joshua, Andrew and David as well as several great grandchildren and extended family.

Following the service conducted by Rev. Ken Jones, a tea was held at the chapel tea room.

Mountain View Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. Cremation.

O’KEEFE

O’Keefe, John Joseph Tierney passed away in Vernon in his 90th year (February 8, 1911 – July 13, 2000). Tierney is remembered with love by his daughters, Eileen (Joe) Giuliani of North Vancouver and Kathleen (Mark) Nield of Vernon, and sons, D’Arcy (Wendy) of Westbank, Kevin (Lilia) of North Vancouver, and Casey (Karen) of Atlanta, Georgia. Also grandchildren Jennifer, Heather, Arron, Tori, Heana, Michael, McKenna; and by his great-grandson Thomas. He was predeceased by his wife Betty, parents Cornelius O’Keefe and Elizabeth Tierney; sisters Mary, Peggy, Eileen, and by brothers Faber and Connie. Tierney, together with his wife Betty, preserved and restored the O’Keefe Ranch into an Okanagan Historic Site. Prior to the restoration, Tierney was a cattleman, rancher and farmer, having taken over the family ranch in 1929. He was the last surviving child of Cornelius O’Keefe, an original pioneer of Vernon. A generation of Okanagan history has been closed with his passing. Prayers will be held at St. James Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 20. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Fri., July 21 at St. James Church, Vernon, B.C. with Father Jerry Desmond, Celebrant. Interment will follow at the family plot at St. Ann’s Cemetery. O’Keefe Ranch. The family invite you to join them in celebration of Tierney’s life at a reception to be held at the O’Keefe Ranch Restaurant following the interment. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tierney’s memory may be made to the St. James’ Parking Lot Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Vernon Funeral Home.

OLIVIER

Fopko Olivier service today

Funeral for the late Fopko Olivier of Armstrong was held at Knox Presbyterian Church at Vernon on Aug.1 at 10 a.m. following his death at his home on July 29. He was 77.

Born in Holland, Mr. Olivier immigrated to Canada in 1955, settling first at Campbell River, then Victoria. Seven years ago, he moved to Armstrong.

Mr. Olivier owned and operated a deli and dry goods store for many years. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, woodworking, reading and music.

Mr. Olivier is survived by his wife, Way, at Armstrong, four sons Bill (Jurrina) at Vernon, Lody (Monica) at Langley, Fred (Inkie) at Kaledon and Martin (Janet) at Victoria; a daughter Wilma (Ferdinand), and Reinsma at Armstrong, 15 grandchildren, Renee, Camella, Erin, Nathan, Yolanda, Maria, Laurence, Krista, Andrea, Alyssa, Daniel, Cameron, Carina, Jeanna and Stefan; two great grandchildren Meghan and Michael, a brother Hein at Victoria, a sister Griet in Holland, nieces and nephews.

The service was conducted by Rev. Ed Milne.

Interment was in Armstrong and Spallumcheen Cemetery.

Following the interment a tea was held at Mountain View Chapel in Armstrong, also entrusted with arrangements.

O’NEIL

O’Neil funeral service Sept. 7

A long-time Spallumcheen resident died at Vernon Jubilee Hospital Sept. 3.

Harold Anderson O’Neil died at age 83 and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by wife Mary; daughter Donna Koscileny of Armstrong; sons Jerry (Bev) of Armstrong and Roger (Sharon) of Houston, Texas, Jody, Shelley, Ernie and Jason; eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He is predeceased by son Ronnie in 1963.

Mr. O’Neil was born in Winnipeg and raised in rural Saskatchewan before moving to Vancouver at age 16. He and Mary married Jan. 31, 1940 and he served overseas in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1943 to 1946.

Mr. O’Neil worked as a lumber grader, trucker and miner, working at Barkerville from 1941 to 1943, and moved to the farm at Grandview Flats in 1953 where he has resided since. He enjoyed camping, boating, gold panning, loved horses, music and played the mouth organ.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at Grandview Flats Seventh Day Adventist Church Sept. 7. Pastor Dennis Nichol will officiate and internment will be at Grandview Flats Cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of Mountain View Funeral Home.

OSACHUK

Llowyn Osachuk death noted

Word was received last week of the death at the Coast of Llowyn Osachuk, a former executive director of Kindale at Armstrong.

Born in Saskatchewan on May 1, 1933, Mrs. Osachuk had a long career working with mentally and physically challenged people. She was a resident in a nursing home in the Lower Mainland for the past seven or eight months. She died March 25.

She was director pf the Kindale operations here from 1978 until the early eighties. During that time, she introduced normalization into the lives of Kindale’s clients.

Mrs. Osachuk was predeceased by her husband and sons. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Maureen and Armsnd, grandsons Luke. Jake, Eric, and Steven, great grandchildren Anna and Noah and sisters June and Linda.

OUT

Justus Out services held

Services were held last week for a wqell-known dairyman, Justus Josephus Out. He died Oct. 29 at the age of 73.

Mr. Out was a well respected dairy farmer in Deep Creek as well as a member of the farmer’s institute, the Kamloops Okanagan Dairymen’s Association and a director of the BCAI center.

Mr. Out came to Canada from Holland in 1952. His dairy career began in the Lower Mainland. In 1965, he moved with his family to Deep Creek where the family farm is still maintained today.

During his retirement, Mr. Out enjoyed traveling, playing card games, visiting and spending time with his family and friends.

Predeceased by his first wife, trudy, he is survived by wife Cornelia of 13 years, two daughters Ina (David) Gory and Marilyn (Randy) Morta, five sons Justus (Thirza), Nick (Janet), Rick (Sandra), John (Hannah), Gerry (Susan), also 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Prayers were offered on Nov. 1. Mass of the Christian Burial was held Nov. 2 with Father George LaGrange celebrant. Interment followed in Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Justus’ name may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.

Fischer’s Funeral Services at Salmon Arm was entrusted with arrangements.
