TILDESLEY Death and Funeral of John James Tildesley With sorrow but no surprise the news was received in the city at the beginning of the week that Mr. John James Tildesley had passed away in the Armstrong Hospital on Sunday. Mr. Tildesley was taken very seriously ill a few weeks ago, and upon being removed to the hospital an operation was found to be necessary. Almost from the first, however, but little hope was expected of his recovery, though he lingered longer than had been expected, and the end came with what was felt to be a welcome relief. Mr. And Mrs. Tildesley came to this district, with Mr. And Mrs. I. M. Townsend and Mrs. Malpas, twenty-two years ago, the whole party moving from Michel, near Fernie, whence they had known one another well. They all took up land in the same vicinity, in the hills beyond Lansdowne, but Mr. Tildesley sold out there a few years later, and moved to the place he has since occupied lower down. He buried two children at Lansdowne Cemetery, but a son, Percy Gordon Tildesley, and his wife survive him. He was aged 48 years. The late Mr. Tildesley was always very highly respected as a man of very upright character and great industry. He was a consistent member of the Methodist church up to Union, and was then associated with the United Church. The funeral took place at Zion Church on Wednesday, the Rev. W. Stott officiating. The pall-bearers were Messrs. J. Z. Parks, F. Sugden, C. W. Burton, S. Grant, North and Harrison. A number of beautiful wreaths reposed on the coffin. The service was attended by quite a considerable number of friends from the city and country. The interment took place at Armstrong cemetery. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. Sage. Marshall came from Michel to Enderby and purchased four forty-acres in Spallumcheen, three of which now belong to Mr. W. T. Still. After a couple of years Mr. And Mrs. Tildesley sold their forty and moved to Armstrong where Mr. Tildesley was employed by Smith’s Saw Mill. Later they lived on the property where Mr. and Mrs. Visser now reside. It was after Mr. Tildesley passed away in March of 1926 that Mrs. Tildesley and her son , Percy, purchased the farm on the Eagle Rock Road on which they lived until they sold it and moved to town to their house on Railway Avenue which ahs been their home ever since. Mrs. Tildesley was always interested in the welfare of her friends; always very thoughtful and generous. As a member if the Methodist Church and then the United Church she was keenly interested, attending every Sunday when health permitted. For the past six years she had not been able to go far from home, spending a lot of her time in a wheel chair. It was after two weeks in the Armstrong Hospital that she passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 24th. Surviving is one son, Percy G. Tildesley, at home.
