Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery

North of Vernon on Highway 97A, proceed to Armstrong. Beginning at McDonald's Restaurant on Smith Drive

in Armstrong, proceed north on Smith Drive, turning left as it becomes Pleasant Valley Road (signs designate this).

Go west to Okanagan Street, turn right for 1 block to Wood Ave., turn left and proceed to Highland Park Road.

Turn right onto this road. 1.9 km. later turn left and the gate to the cemetery will be apparent on your right.

The cemetery is well kept, the road frontage is fenced with stone posts and chain between. The setting is one

of quiet and peace - there is a farm on either side and the back boundary is at a steep ravine. Many large trees

provide a picturesque setting against the mountains of the valley.

On the west side of the cemetery about 50 meters north of the main road, are a number of Chinese graves. There

are 8 markers with Chinese characters on them. I am told that people with kin here (in Canada) were given

markers, those who were alone were not. Since there were a large number of Chinese in Armstrong, and they

are the pioneers of this area, I feel they should be mentioned here, whether or not we can read the stones. LE
