Society members have catalogued the tombstone inscriptions for cemeteries in our region. All of the major cemeteries and many of the smaller ones in the North Okanagan and the Shuswap areas of British Columbia are included here. In addition we have catalogued most of the cemeteries in an adjacent region, the Arrow Lakes (Columbia River Valley) region. Smaller, family type cemeteries are located from time to time and these are added as soon as they have been indexed.

A society member has been part of a project to index all of the Doukobor cemeteries in the Slocan valley, Castlegar, Salmo and Grand Forks areas  and may be found at http://www.doukhobor.org/Cemetery-Index.htm

The inscriptions on the tombstones have been recorded as found, without editing. We attempt to resurvey each cemetery once a year with the exception of those which are no longer being used.

In some cases personal knowledge, cemetery plot plans or other clues enable us to provide information that might be of use to anyone doing a genealogical search. By using the Records of Death archives of the B.C. government it is frequently possible to assign dates to those buried in gravesites that do not have headstones or other markers. Where such information has been included it is  prefaced with the heading "ARCH:" or "Archive"

Society members may be able to provide further information on the families or persons listed. Write to Box 1447, Vernon B.C., Canada, V1T 6N7 or e-mail  verfamhist@shaw.ca
