Geographical Location
The Regional District of North Okanagan was incorporated on November 9, 1965 as part of British Columbia's creation of regional government, considered to be one of the most innovative in Canada. The Regional District functions as a partnership of our member municipalities and electoral areas.
The Regional District is comprised of the Cities of Armstrong, Enderby and Vernon; District of Coldstream; Village of Lumby; Township of Spallumcheen and surrounding Electoral Area's B, C, D, E and F. (Most of Electoral Area "A" was annexed into the City of Vernon with the remainder being combined with Area "B" on December 6, 1993). We cover an area of 787,190 hectares with a population of 77,301 (est. 2006).
The North Okanagan region is situated between the Okanagan Valley and the Shuswap, in the interior of British Columbia, stretching from Vernon in the south to Grindrod in the north.
The communities of the North Okanagan are located on or near Highway 97A, which runs from north of Vernon to Sicamous, at the junction with Trans-Canada Highway 1. The region can also be accessed on Highway 97 from Kamloops, and Highway 97B from Salmon Arm and the Shuswap.
