VERNON CEMETERY, PLEASANT VALLEY ROAD
The present day cemetery began around the turn of the century.
 It is located on PLEASANT VALLEY ROAD at the vicinity of 43rd Avenue in the
City of Vernon.  The cemetery is approached from Highway 97 by turning east
onto SILVER STAR ROAD and going up a hill to a traffic light on Pleasant Valley
Road then left for a quarter of a  mile along Pleasant Valley Road.
Several  stones have indistinct or partial lettering only.
This is not the first cemetery but the graves from the earlier cemeteries have
been relocated  here.
The original cemetery was on a plot of land close by 38th Street, established in 1880s on land
donated for the purpose by Luc GIROUARD now known as 'PIONEER PARK'
Originally called VERNON PUBLIC CEMETERY then OLD PIONEER CEMETERY
and then OLD KAMLOOPS ROAD CEMETERY, the road with that name
being to the east.  All graves from this cemetery have been transferred to
this  main cemetery on PLEASANT VALLEY ROAD.  Some monument stones have
been placed in the cairn at the former site, now known as 'PIONEER PARK'

The following names are on a commemorative plaque at PIONEER PARK.
The cemetery existed from 1886 to 1902.

WOOD 'Winnie' 21 Oct 1898 Aged 3 and 1/2 yrs. "Daughter of Thomas and
 Ellen WOOD"  I shall gather my Lambs.
