Historical Background

The Duck Range Union Cemetery is an interdenominational cemetery whose existence dates over 100 years. The land for this cemetery was purchased from Jane Munger on 21 December 1909 for $1.00.

Some of the trustees of the cemetery included Frank Munger, Hugh Sinclair, Alexander Allan, Robert Brett and Henry Green Bowling.

A land survey was conducted in 1921 and the cemetery was subsequently registered in Kamloops at the Land Titles Office as Plan B - 1188.

Official records for the Duck Range Union Cemetery are believed to have been kept by Lifetime Trustee Frank Munger. When he moved to Burns Lake he possibly took the records with him and unfortunately a house fire destroyed all of his belongings; consequently, there are no accurate records as to who is buried in the cemetery or where they are buried.

Layout

The Duck Range Union Cemetery is a small public interdenominational cemetery. According to the markers in the cemetery the first burial was in 1909.

Although the cemetery is still in use, there appears to be very little maintenance done to either the cemetery itself or the markers. The minimal maintenance done is that the surrounding field is mowed.

The cemetery is approximately 1 acre in size, surrounded by a wire fence and a metal gate for entry.

There are approximately 15 graves, at least 3 unmarked. The graves are levelled and there are upright raised markers and some flat markers set flush with the ground. The materials used for the markers are slate, marble and brick.
